WSOP $1,500 Shootout. Nut Flush on Paired Board

First round of Event14, the $1,500 Shootout. 10-handed tables, but it's the first level (25/25) and only three players have arrived at our table.

Only about 20minutes into the level and no significant hands yet (especially as we have a tremendously slow dealer). So all three players have essentially the starting stack of 4,500.

In the hand, I am the BTN, and the other two players are the SB and the CO.

CO limps, I raise to 100 with K8 and SB calls, CO calls. Pot 325.

Flop A99

Checked to me, I bet 175, SB folds. CO calls. Pot 675.

Turn 5

CO bets 250. I raise to 850, hoping I can win the pot here, but with the NFD as backup.

The CO thinks for quite a while before making the call. Pot 2,375.

River 4 so I get there with the nut flush.

CO player checks to me. My best action now ???

ok... What hand would you (CO) be calling with? An inferior flush? Trip 9's?

Re: WSOP $1,500 Shootout. Nut Flush on Paired Board

Bet every time... massive missed value with a check... much of the time I think villain just has an ace here. Of course, he has a 9 sometimes. Sometimes he has a lower flush. 55 and 44 probably don't stay in the hand long enough to boat up, 99 and AA raise pre, so A9 is all that really beats you. If he has/had A9, sucks, but nothing you can do.

I usually tend to bet big in these spots, trying to maximize value and basically thinking if they're calling then they'll call... however, this might be one spot to value bet on the small side as the board really doesn't look great for most of villain's range and you want a crying call from 109 or maybe even AJ... so... 1200/call?

Bet 1400 on river and feel good about it. Not sure if I can find a fold on the river either. Guy who donk leads & calls on the turn after limping in the CO seems like he might not know what a paired board even is and raise with a worse flush.

Seems like the CO is either really bad or really good. Either way, it means 44, 55, A9, 99, AA are entirely possible.

Betting here is just too lip-smackin' obvious.
