Re: Venetian Deep Stack FT--flop of my dreams or my nightmares?

Forgot to mention this was a $1600 buyin event--if it matters

Anyway, hero calls.
Turn is a 9s, Villain bets 82k, hero calls.
River is Kh. Villain predictably shoves (~250k into ~310k)
...

is there anyone out there endorsing a call?

If he's shoving when a K hits the river's a really easy fold.

think the hand was played perfectly if you fold the river.

I actually really like checking this flop. But in-game I would usually bet (even though I think checking is better)

Re: people saying it is results oriented to check...

It's not at all, it's called having a plan after weighing outcomes and knowing a pot could get this huge if we bet the flop, but can't if we check, checking seems optimal vs competent opponents who will bluff often when we check.

congrats on final tabling the venetian 1600 pretty tough field imo. nice hand share too honestly would be tough to decide whether to check back flop or not. I think you played it well as is though and just didnt catch that luckson.

Question for the check-back guys. What do you do when the fish bets and the aggro raises?

Re: Venetian Deep Stack FT--flop of my dreams or my nightmares?

good question. I might be stuck.. especially because fish was short and villain could be making a move to leverage his stack. But those who were endorsing that check-line, I would be interested to hear the plan under such a scenario.

I'm assuming you mean when we brick on the turn? I'd be folding unless their bet sizing was super dumb small. Turn is going to go bet and raise in front of you so rarely I don't think it's much of a deterrent.

Oh I thought you were in position. In that case, flop will go bet/raise so infrequently that I don't think it's much of a deterrent.

Re: Venetian Deep Stack FT--flop of my dreams or my nightmares?

That said, it probably would have in this scenario had I checked. I know the fish well, he prolly stabs at it. And I know (found out after he busted) what villain had, and he would surely have raised.. so what's our plan that scenario?

Re: Venetian Deep Stack FT--flop of my dreams or my nightmares?

If we know the fish is likely to stab, that's a better reason to check the flop. I would probably 3bet the flop in the event it goes bet/raise, since the villain is aggro and may also know the fish is stabbing, and we could get him to fold a good ace with this line (and have 8+ outs if he doesn't fold)

Re: Venetian Deep Stack FT--flop of my dreams or my nightmares?

I'd probably 3b/call or 3b jam depending on bet sizes and effective stacks. I think you have good FE as described, and 8-12 outs when called. Occasionally you'll get it in really good against a worse FD also. If for whatever reason you don't think you have much/any FE, then fold and hate it.
