Van Tran Hero call in WSOP Main Event 2012 Van Tran Hero call in WSOP Main Event 2012

Hey

Just watched for the first time Van Tran Vs. Alcobar sick hand from WSOP Main Event 2012, and I can't understand Van Tran hero call.
I know that if we are 'results oriented', he made one of the greatest calls in WSOP history, but when I'm trying to analyse this hand, he just can't call a 70% pot bet on the river. Alcobar 3bet him, than Cbet the flop, called a raise on the flop, and than bombed the river. It seems to me that this is a very bad call.
Do you think Van Tran analysed thoroughly Alcobar hand, and decided that his range consisted mainly unpaired high cards? Or this is just a luck and an Ego war?

Thanks!

Lots of button clicking going on everywhere, but if you just look at river the hero call is reasonable because the tiny raises sizes used throughout the hand by both players basically price Alcober into getting to riv with a huge portion of the range he 3bets pre.
