So, there's this donkament at my local casino that I've played maybe 15 times or so and I'm looking for some playing tips for its particular structure.

buyin
$20+4 5k stack
$40+4 10k stack

Levels are all 20 minutes. Re entry until end of level 4.

25/50
50/100
100/200
150/300
(end re-entry)
200/400
300/600
400/800 100 ante
600/1200 100 ante
800/1600 200 ante
1000/2000 200 ante
1200/2400 300 ante
etc.

payout structure is (I think ) 40/30/20/10 when 4 players are paid out. Sometimes its 5 payouts, but not sure how the breakdown looks then. the prize pool is generally between $1080- 1300

Obviously I always by the 10k stack. The main problem I have with it is there just aren't very many hands played before the blinds are getting so high it becomes an all in fest. If you're lucky enough to be dealt a few good hands hands in the first 4 levels (4o hands or so), you can put a descent stack together. But even with decent hands, there are always at least 2 maniacs at each table that either won't fold (or keep raising) with middle pair, or worse, won't fold and won't raise when they've hit a straight with their 8-4 off suit. So unless you've got the nuts, you just feel uncertain. Anyone can be holding anything and will make completely irrational plays (which is GREAT in a cash game or even a longer online tourney, but I find it difficult to face in this turbo-type situation

I manage to get paid out maybe 1/3 of the time I've gone but only made it to 2nd place once because I always end up at the final table short stacked. Can anyone recommend a strategy for playing looser in a tourney full of super loose opponents? Should I just be limping at tables where everyone is just over limping and open min raising a lot of suited connectors, etc? Feels like the only way to build a stack. Playing a 15-2-% range just doesn't offer enough opportunities to build a stack in such a short period of time. I've kind of noticed that there are a few ppl who either bust early-ish or make it final table with a huge stack. I imagine they are just playing super loose and then tightening up around the bubble?

Thanks In Advance

Hi, I have the same problem on SnG turbo. On all material I've been study it's saying the same strategy: early game be tigth and play in position with value hands. Mid game: open a little you range and steal to maintenance your stack. Late game/bubble: full pressure on short and mid stack.
It's very important study push and fold strategy and how to play with any size of stack (deep, mid and short )
I hope it's helped you.

Thanks. Yeah, that's mostly what I've read, too. But it seems best for normal speed. I'm having a hard time finding good advice for turbo-specific strategy though. Espeically against live players who are super different than even the microstakes players online

Against maniac players I recommend you to listen this podcast number #834. The talk about how to maniacs/gamblers players think and how to play against.

If your opponents are loose, play extremely tight early. Especially if they don't adjust to you playing that tight.
If they do adjust, play slightly looser and show some bad hands.

While not playing any hands, pay attention to how they look at their cards, how they bet, how much they bet, where their hands are when in a hand, where they are looking, what they are saying ...

Figure out which players fold too much and figure out which players call too much.
Against the folders, bluff more.
Against the callers, value bet more and bluff less (or not at all if they are call stations!)

Once you have some reads on players, you can target them.

Don't try to play loose against the maniacs, unless you are extremely good post flop. Which you're most likely not.

Usually in poker, playing the opposite of how your opponents are playing is most profitable.

Playing 15-2? sounds horrible. Switch to like 10-8 something.
Play a lot less hands from early position and a few more from late probably.
Call less pre-flop and 3bet and fold more!

Yeah this is basically how I play it. Probably my biggest leak is not getting enough value out of my good hands because always scared the loose, calling stations are calling my 2 pair down with a J8o straight or 94s flush. Often I'll be facing 2 or even 3 opponents in every pot I have a strong hand in who are playing any 2 suited or connected cards. And they play strong and weak hands the same for the most part. They call. But you're right, I guess I should be playing my value hands more aggressively, 3betting even where I know my weaker looser opponents are not folding with a worse hand. Even if I dink of half my chips in the first couple levels to suck outs, its more likely that I will build a stronger stack, in the long run of many tournaments and get to those good paying final table spots.

Push harder in good spots and surrender to the Variance
