Anyway, back to the hand analysis...

I check here, and I don't think it's particularly close. Why did we call with 45s in this spot? Was it to bluff a at a 5-way pot with a tricky player checking to us? I hope not.

Betting wouldn't be disastrous obviously, since we're so deep and likely would not lose more unless the perfect draw card fell on the turn, but still, it does feel like spewing to me. Check, and hope LP checks behind so you can pick up one of your many helpful cards on the turn... then you can feel free to get creative.

I agree with those saying check the flop vs. this many players, especially when one is a tricky player who didn't c-bet.

On a completely unrelated note, what was assani's old 2+2 name? I thought he was jcm4cc (or whatever) but I've seen both of them posting recently...?

I thought he was always Assani.

Multi-accounting 2+2 is not frowned upon, right? Because I'll admit, sometimes when I make sweat threads, the five idiots with 1 post all sweating me and praisng my poker extols are usually me, me, me, me, and me.

We should be evaluating our decisions post-flop based on where we are, not where we intended to be.

Yeah, we've got four villains with us here, but one has indicated he's giving up, BB isn't showing interest, and UTG may be tricky but is he so tricky to check a monster in this specific spot (answer probably not, but okay don't rule it out). The only one left to act is an ABC player that is probably going to tell us right away whether he's going to the felt or not with this hand.

As I said, I have no problem with a check in the hopes of seeing whether the river makes this hand more tasty, but taking a stab here seems justified as well.

Where we are is nowhere particualrly special.

Two players may seem uninterested, but the read on UTG:

"UTG is a tricky player who limp with monsters and many times will slowplay too much and get himself in trouble. He will also occassionally make moves that are simply weird and pretty unexplainable."

means he could very well become active, and we still have another player left to act. I don't think we take this down very often at all with a stab here.

I used to post under jwvdcw, but I had it changed. This is still the same exact account(I've never had more than one), I just requested to have my name changed to my real name.

I think there was a chapter in HOH v.2..."Beware of the OverThink..." I am not quite to his level but that caviat may apply here. IMHO

I think checking is the correct move, but one thing nobody has pointed out that I think is worth mentioning is that I would be more tempted to bet at this flop, then if we actually picked up a straight or a flush draw. If we picked up our flush draw or straight draw if somebody is trapping with a big hand, we might be able to burn them on the turn by taking the free card now. On the other hand, in this situation, if we take a stab and somebody comes over the top of us, we can easily let go of this hand knowing we were behind anyway. Likewise, if we bet a draw in this situation, we might have to put it down anyway if villian makes a large re-raise over the top of us.

In a heads up pot I might bet the draw, but in a big multi-way like this, I would take the free card if we picked up our draw.

I guess it depends on your definition of "interesting."

Bet flop, tricky calls. Turn 3 , tricky bets, you call. River A , double through tricky's AA.

This, I would find interesting.

I'll check back in November.

I don't think that is applicable here. Here is what he says:

Quote:
A desire to be brilliantly clever has undone many a poker player. Most small stack play is pretty obvious and straightforward once you understand the role played by M in determining your stragegy. However, its possible to overthnk some situations, with tragic results. Warning: What you are about to see may be disturbing to some viewers.
He then goes on to give an example. In his example, your M is under 4 and your opponents M is under 6. In short I don't believe this to be applicable to my situation because Harrington is specifically referring to short stacked situations.
