I'm 18 years old, playing poker since 15. Next year I was supposed to go to law school because I'm finishing high school. But I've decided to take 1 year and half to take a shot at poker. I'm a winner at 13$ ABI on sites like 888 and party but not at pokerstars. I want to have a player who has a track success over the years to mentor me and guide me through my career. I was thinking one hour of skype every two weeks, price can be discussed. To help with things like game selection, preparation, skillsets and etc. theory can also be discussed but not necessarily wanting just that, want somebody with experience who has been around for a long time, anyway if anyone has interested please pm me. Cheers

Do you think it's not worth a shot at 18 years old to try to follow your dream? If I fail I have options if the works, awesome.

If it was 2008 I'd say go poker, now I'd say go school and play poker for fun on the side.

Get education then play after... Poker is tough these days kid

Do both, play while in school and see how it works out. After school look at your hourly win rate and decide if you are making more per hour playing then you can practicing law

If he is in USA we can safely assume his $/hour is never going to be bigger than after finishing law's school.

As a High Stakes player who is your mentor...this will be my first and only lesson. If you can make it in school to be a lawyer, go for it. It gets much more difficult to go back to school and be up with the learning curve. Get your education. Poker will always be here for you. With your degree, you will always have something to fall back on!

even if you decide to make a dumb decision and leave law school....given that youre not even a winner @stars but want to be a pro, having one hour every two weeks with a coach is way too little

Actually, you didn't understand correctly. I'm leaving high school this year. My grades are big enough to make it possible for me to enroll in law school in one year and half and not losing my spot. So what I'm actually going to do is try in this one year and half, this 1 time every two weeks with coaching is just mentoring that I though would be nice. Next year will be studying 4 hours of theory every day and playing 6 to 8. If it doesn't workout it's fine I enroll in law school and become a lawyer and if it does, great. Will give my all and life will point me to the right direction thank you. Never going to have to question what if, and never be frustrated.

Yes good to hv school to fall back on. It's possible to be a top poker player while being at school, even tho it's hard. Look at Brandon Adams, Matt hawichenko, Brian Hastings

The true crossroads for you will likely happen in the middle of this.

Let's say you go for it. Let's say you have some decent success, maybe bink some 60k score and end up +90k for the first 18 months. Is awesome, but not absurd crush.

Do you go back to school or do u keep grinding ?

On one level, winning 142k in 2009 MAY have been one of the worse things that happened to me, as I never went back to school cause lolmonies and now I'm in my 30s and 'stuck' grinding poker (don't get me wrong, I love it) because I don't have much of a fall back option. In fact, I have no fall back option.

Take into great consideration.

Personally I think def go to law school but ALSO def still grind with regularity. It's not a crime to study during week while working and grind all day Saturday and Sunday for example.

Def what soepgroente said about 2008 and now.

go to law school poker is dead.
choosing the poker life over a career in law will be seriously one of the worst decisions you ever make

Poker is not dead...a lot of people still make a good living playing this game.
It will be dead relativly soon, but its still alive atm...its just on life support.

If you live in the US and/or have to pay for law school (which, considering you can somehow go from high school to law school in 1.5 years, is likely not true) don't go to law school.

I live in Brasil! And yes I can do that because the version of SATS in Brasil it's called enem and the grade you get, you can use it within 2 years so that makes it possible. I will not go, at least not next year.
