they both play for same backer. Each wins 200k in a tourney

backer takes in (50k +100k) = 150k for player A
backer takes in (0+100k)= 100k for player B.

The one in MU is worth more to staker so if he had to choose to drop one he would drop the horse not in makeup

i think
This.

How do people in a high stakes MTT thread not understand this?

Wouldn't A get 125k? Only netting the backer 75k since it was his 50k he lost. B is 100k net.

So the answer is B?

200k score, 50k clears makeup leaving 150k. divided by 2 is 75k. 75+50 is 125.

well yes i know but having lost 50k before this score has to count for something.

if your bankroll was 100k and you backed someone and they lost 50k for you, then had a 200k score youd end up with having a bankroll of 175k. (a way)

if your bankroll was 100k and you back someone and on the first try they won 200k, your new bankroll would be 200k. (b way)

200 > 175

Ok, one guy backs 2 people in a deal where profits are split 50/50 after makeup. He has to drop one due to financial issues. The backer rates both players similar skill levels with similar ROIs, thus having equal chances of cashing/winning.

Backers bankroll before an upcoming WPT event is 500k

John is 100k in make up
Bob just cashed in an event and is now make up free

Which player to drop?

Well, lets assume each player will cash for 110k in the next 10k that they player.

The backer will get all 110k from John as that's his makeup figure (100k plus 10k buy in)
The backer will get 60k from Bob (50k for half the profits plus his 10k stake back).

110k>60k, thus meaning the player in makeup is of greater value to a backer.

If the backer keeps John, the backers bankroll is now 600k (500k starting, minus 10k for WPT buy in, plus 110k from Johns cash=600k)
If the backer keeps Bob, the backers bankroll is now 550k (500k starting, minus 10k for WPT buy in, plus 60k from John cash=550k)

You cant add in the money lost as you say because it's gone. It's all about what future value the horse brings the backer, and when two players have equal skill the backer is always better keeping the player in makeup bc that player will have to pay the backer a higher % of future cashes.

Just look at it in terms of the backers bankroll- which player will grow the backers bankroll more if they cash in an event. Obviously keeping John will do so since the difference in the backers bankroll would be 600k as compared to 550k with Bob.

Hope that helps you understand.

Ya the flaw to your argument of "it's already been lost" is the fact that that same player could have already won the backer 200k before that downswing so its not technically "lost".

All you have now is the relevant information which is 1 player in makeup and 1 player not in makeup and a backer looking to maximize future earnings.

wut? Said in layman's terms the backer has a higher % in each future tournament of the player that is deeper in make up therefore the backer should cut the player who is not in make up.

just because other scenarios exist doesnt make it a flaw. plus its still 50k thats been lost. it doesnt matter if someone won 8 million, cleared makeup, then went on a 50k downswing. its still 50k lost that has to be made up.

I don't think it can be explained any more clearly.

Waiting for timetowom to post that he is up millions of $$ in poker so that I can just go and kill myself.

TBJ for it to be a scam there would need to be clear consensus amongst people who should have the skills to evaluate things like this that the MU was clearly overpriced.

Your opinion is it is, Klink (unless you think he is some sort of scam artist) who should also have the skills to evaluate propositions like this clearly doesn't think it is a scam.

Seems more like a difference of opinion than a scam.

my name is mark tehan and me and joe are cousins. we talked alot about math and poker over the holidays. we determined its pretty illogical to count how many bb's something is. joe even came up with an analogy using the pile of peas on his plate. i cant recall what it was because it made no sense, so i guess it was just over my head. i mean grandma clapped and supported him.

im not up millions. i am an assistant supervisor in the plumbing department at home depot. joe was the one who was blessed with all the good looks and intelligence. his moms sister (my mom) was the drinker of the two.

yeah paying attention to bet sizes or stack sizes is pretty illogical, randomly deciding an option based on whatever whim passes through your head makes alot more sense. "hmm i have two cards, if i call he might lose and then i win and get more money! CALL"

Mark what's it like playing big league baseball? Do you miss being a royal?
