GUKPT £1000 ME
So its the first hand of the Main Event.
Hero is in the BB.
Starting stacks of 20000 chips, blinds 25/50
1st position raises to 550, passes around to Hero in who looks down at AKs
Is it spewy to move all in for 20000 here? What sort of hands can villian call with? Bearing in mind this is first hand and villian and hero have no history whatsoever.

Re: GUKPT £1000 ME
Ur 400bb deep wit AKs in 1st hand i cant see any reason to showe here.. Think how drunk this guy must be to call ur allin with worse on 1st hand! I cant imagine any1 withot AA go allin pre in 1st hand, players who bught in want to play at least few levels and dont wana go bust on 1st hand.. My play would be to call and proceed with caution even if A or K hits..

Re: GUKPT £1000 ME
You generally dont wanna get 400 bbs in with AKs with no history in a 1k tourney imo. Would seem that villain is quite useless with this sizeing, but it still seems unlikely that he would ever call off worse (unless you can actually observe a pound of cocain in front of him) so im probably calling here every time. Its not really that important to get 550 extra to your stack either at this point - imo you wanna smallball your way up, picking on weak spots, etc..
Think of it this way, if you where playing with a friend and you meet up with him in the break and ask how he did, how would you respond to "Busted first hand, had AK in BB and some guy opened 11x. Obv had to 40x his bet - he had aces, cooler imo.."

ROFL.
No wonder Todd wants to play all the tourneys across the pond.

Re: GUKPT £1000 ME
dont you think he can only call with KK+ since it is so so early? his raise tilted the hell out of me, and also the fact id gotten 1 hour sleep prior to starting

Re: GUKPT £1000 ME
Standard shove with AKs. You want to see all 5 cards and maybe make opponent fold preflop. It's sort of a semibluff. You have blockers to AA/KK. Always reraise allin with AKs in any situation.

Re: GUKPT £1000 ME
Villian can call with AA.
You are essentially turning a really good hand into a weird bluff for no reason.
3 bet, flat, or fold are all 100% better than shoving.

Re: GUKPT £1000 ME
Actually interesting situation if you asked call or fold. I would probably fold.
3-betting is probably not good. Would bet difficult to play a 3-bet pot if he flats, particularly if you hit.
If you had a read he was a maniac, then maybe call or 3-bet. Without a read, I would say this is TT+/AK almost always and often AA/KK this deep.
