Party Poker 5k Montreal

early.
1 million average stack.

4000/8000 1000ante (can't recall exactly but close).

HJ bets 25k
Cut-off (Hero) calls with A6ss
Button raises to like 55k (small odd sizing, not a pro though neither am I)

HJ tanks for 2 minutes and then calls.
Hero calls

flop 578cc
check check check

turn 9
check
check
button bets like 65k.

HJ who is an older guy 55-60 who obviously travels to play poker and has more money then sense probably but it was still early and I didn't have any real reads on him.

Anyways he snaps re-raises to 300k. (Like 650k behind)
He stared down the button after the raise.

Do I Auto-shove?

I can't really think of too many hands I can't have in this spot so I am not really sure what other people put me on.

Both players "can" have 10J some of the time but both players probably raise and re-raise these hands preflop less then optimal and the 300k raise seems to suggest some other kind of hand. Sets and maybe combo draw with a flush-d.

Agree with preferring a 3-bet preflop.

Honestly, I think I fold here and it's one of those spots where I'm not telling anyone about it, either. Especially if this is a big shot take for you. Villian's lines are weird, and I'm not quite sure what they have, but given old man putting in significant money you're getting it in drawing dead here an uncomfortable amount of the time. JTs is completely within his range, and not impossible JTs is in a button 3-bet/check flopped gutter range. You have so many chips and better spots moving forward I fold.

Seems like a really obvious bet for us on the turn, I'd expect it to check behind a lot. Now... fold? I'd think if he has Txcc he'd just lead out, but this is pretty read dependent. To state the obvious, if he doesn't have a draw we're dead to JT, maybe sometimes chopping to a random overplaying 6x. Some rare nuggets don't care about the straight and have sets/2 pair here trying to stack an overpair. Make a read, I guess.

Really call? I kind of assume you mean just get in but anyways.

Honestly my first thought was is someone really raising 300k here without 10j when both the other players can have 10j.

My read on the guy was more like he was waiting to see if he would have to get it in more then he had 10j and had to dodge but it wasn't really a strong read and there was still someone behind me.

I folded though I felt like a nit.

The button folded and showed the 9clubs. I talked to him on dinner break and he said the he had A9cc and was mad he raised turn because he didn't get to see the river. I am not really sure why he didn't raise flop.

The (HJ) older guy at the end of the hand said he folded 999 and was going to call a shove for sure. I believed him on both accounts but you never know. Plus it made sense with my read that he was ready to gamble with a strong hand.

Obviously if I 3bet the hand, I bet the flop, he probably calls and we get it on the turn. Which means I was kicking myself until I busted after the dinner break when I doubled barrelled a flush draw with an over card with 25 BB though still pretty questionable I guess.

anyways thanks everyone for the feedback.

In general, 3b > cold-calling in a lot of scenarios IP, esp vs non EP raisers.

You should definitely be 3-betting rather than callingthese weak suited aces vs a MP/later position raise IP
