Re: $550 WPT Deepstack hand

This is a fold a LOT of the time ron, he *might* have AK. But it's probably a scared big pair more often than not. I insta folded KK and was right in a similar spot the other day.

When I see raises like this it's almost always 99-JJ.

Re: $550 WPT Deepstack hand

In my opinion, I would never fold here. I would either shove pre-flop or, to be a little safer, call and then shove if the board is favorable to my hand. Since you described your opponent’s style of play as being between loose and tight, then his range must be pretty wide. Since there is $2300 in the pot already, he could be trying to steal the blinds and antes. Trying pick up dead money with big bets is pretty common. On top of that, you said you had a table of weak tight players. He also may have recognized this and decided to switch up his play. I think folding is nitty because there are only 3 hands that have you beat pre-flop. Again, I think shoving is the best option.

BTW…what was his chip count?

This is the most important piece of info in this hand. If shoving JJ is +EV here, and I'm not convinced that it is, it's only +EV by a small margin and you can find better spots to exploit the weak players. Always try to reduce variance if you have an edge.

This is 88-JJ / AK sometimes but JJ-AA a way bigger % than many people are suggesting.

I fold, talk him into showing, and pick up some info.
