Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Hi !

Unfortunately, the casinos groups (mainly Partouche and Barriere) have more or less left poker on the side because not profitable, so it's really hard to find low-stakes cash games.
In the french riviera, there is a casino where there is 1/2 NLHE, it's the casino de Cavalaire, no membership fee, and daily poker tournaments.

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Hi all

Just to let know for people who wants to play poker in paris during the end of this week.

There is a big tournament for the 4th anniversary of Cercle Cadet. The main Event in the 700 euros with re-entry.

Day 1A is the 18 April, DAY 1B the 19 April, DAY 2 the 20 April and the final the 21 April.

As far I know, the team at Cercle Cadet said me that they are waiting between 350 and 400 players ---> Nice Prize-Pool.

Good Luck to all.

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Had a trip to the south of France in May of 2014. Useful information for those who plan to play some poker there.

I lived in Nice.
One and only place to play there is Casino Ruhl. 1 table of Cash. Blinds 5/5. 10 people at the table (not very comfortable to play even a premium hand when there are 10 actually). Starts at 8pm, closes at around 3 am. Didn't like the atmosphere. Tables and chips are old and worn, place is dark and gloomy. Tournaments run every week. Every day except wednesday(same applies to any other casino). Some of those are 120 euro to buy-in, some are 80. I played 80. It is a turbo event, level runs for about 15-20 minutes.

Nowhere to play live poker in Monaco (didn't see that coming, but went there and checked).

There is 1 casino to play poker in Cannes - it the same chain as the Ruhl casino in Nice. So it is still dusty and unpleasant. Cash game blinds 5/10. Tournaments also run almost everyday. Located at the building where they hold the Cannes Film festival, you'll find it easily. Other casinos don't have live poker.

On the way from nice to Cannes right before Antibes city there is a JOA la Siesta casino. Looks like it has just been fixed and renewed. So it's all shiny and futuristic, with some bright colors all over the place. They hold cash game with blinds at 2/4 euros. BUT they didn't get enough players to open the table in may, but they were pretty sure this would be solved once the summer is on. Would love to play there, nice venue.

55 km from Nice there is a town of San Remo, and the legendary casino there as well. Cash game at 5/10 euros, tournaments held from Thursday to Monday. 120 to buy-in. This is Italy, so if the event is scheduled to 8 pm, it doesn't matter, players gather at about 9:30))))
The place is staggeringly beautiful, wooden floors, high ceilings and tables are new and vey comfortable. Quality chips too. MUST for every poker player. Played the tournament, game is friendly and pretty straight-forward.

So, there you have it, lads, good luck. Shoot me a PM or a post if you have any questions.

No - the rake is standard and is the same, because of the laws in France

Did you check Sun Casino: http://www.montecarlosuncasino.com/Cash-Game,1524.html
Seems like rake is lower than France

No live poker in Monaco, mates(
I didn't expect that too, but I double checked all 3 casinos when I was there.

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Can someone provide some background into how poker outside the casinos is in France? Are there plenty of home games? What other games are available? For example where I live now most poker is played in home games, or 'free' poker in pubs and clubs. Wondering what the alternatives are? Are home games illegal? etc. Thanks couldnt find it in this thread.

From my experience there is nearly no home games in France. Poker is just not engrained in the culture there, especially since the boom died out. Do not rely on home games at all.

Your best bet are the cardrooms in paris... casinos also, but action is quite rare and rake horribly high.

Online is a possibility, but rake hurts there also.

There ARE homegames, but from what I've seen they are either ridiculously small stakes or with shady players you don't really want to meet.

They are a lot of home-games in France, in every big city (at least 50k ppl) you have a regular 1/2 running every week-end. But with shady players.

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Hello Poker players in France.

I just arrived in Paris for two months, looking to see the sights and play some poker. A few questions, sorry if they have already been asked.

1. Where to play? It seems Cercle Clichy Montmartre is the only room open in Paris. Is that correct? Do they spread No Limit cash games?

From their website:

Our 14 poker tables are open every day from 15pm to 6am. You will find course Texas Hold'em but Omaha or Dealer Choice.
Our tables

€ 50 Texas Hold'em, blinds 1/2
€ 100 Texas Hold'em Blinds 2/4
€ 250 Texas Hold'em Blinds 5/5
€ 500 Texas Hold'em, blinds 5/10
€ 100 Dealer Choice or Omaha, blinds 2/4
€ 250 Dealer Choice or Omaha, blinds 5/5

25bb would seem like limit poker. Am I missing something?

2. Rake. I have heard rake is 4% uncapped, seems very high. Is this still true? Maybe I'm dense but I can't seem to decipher this:

Table rights
Cave min. Structure Levy
€ 50 € 1 - € 2 € 2 if pot> € 10
+ € 2 if pot> € 50
+ € 2 100 € pot
max debit € 14
€ 100 € 2 - € 4 € 2 if pot> € 10
+ € 2 if pot> € 50
+ € 2 100 € pot
sampling max € 24

3. Sponsorship and Membership. Do I have to be sponsored to become a member? How does one get sponsored if they are visiting and don't know any members?

Thanks in advance and I hope to see you at the tables.

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Yes there is only the Cercle Clichy Montmartre (CCM) open, two other rooms are in a stand-by (the Aviation Club de France and the Cercle Cadet)
I believe that now at the CCM there are more cash-game tables in order to answer to the costumers of the rooms in stand-by.
For the membership you don't have to be sponsored, you just have to pay the "cotisation"

Think it's something like 150-200 EUR membership fee. Rake is absurd and CCM is in a really iffy area. ACF should be reopening soon, or so the guy on the door told me

The membership is 80 € a year. Kind of expensive. Woman are free which was a nice surprise for the wife.

Rake is a bit high but not near as bad as others here have said.

Most pots at 1/2 are raked 3-7€, close to Caesar's and when you consider tipping is not common it's definitely beatable. There is also a 1€ per hour time charge at 1/2.

The atmosphere is nice, dealers are competent. The players are what you'd expect at a typical 1/2. Many short stacks, lots of limpers. Saw alot of family pots, calling down 2nd pair, etc.

Not alot a drinking going on. Drinks are not comped. About 7€ for a cocktail. I'm used to Vegas where most of the table is drinking.

I don't understand what Clarkson means by iffy area. It is in a heavy traffic tourist area. Big movie theatre and restaurants all around. I've never felt unsafe leaving there and walking to the apartment at 3am.

The most interesting thing for me is the dealers choice games they have running. They look very juicy. Of course Omaha and 08 but also Double Flop Holdem, 5 card Omaha Hi/Lo, Courchevel Hi/Lo, and Super Stud. I believe they are all played with blinds and no limit. I will report back when I have played in this game.

I speak very little French and I have had no problem following the action. Most players and dealers speak English and will help you if you any questions.

Overall a very unique experience and would recommend playing there if you are in Paris.

Does the méditerranée casino in Nice offer cash tables/mtts? I'm staying not far away for the next few days but can't see any info on their sites about their live games.

Istanbul,

Yes CCM is the only poker room currently open in Paris. ACF is unlikely to re open, this according to my friend who used to work there. Good Luck

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

ACF is officially closed for good.
CCM is under heavy pressure, apparently people really want to open a casino in Paris and are doing everything to crush CCM.
As for the CCM neighborhood, I used to live 10 minutes away, I wouldn't say it's an iffy neighborhood per se, it's close to some very touristy and busy areas, but there have been several cases of players leaving the club getting followed and mugged (probably by people with inside info on the club), so I definitely would recommend some precaution when carrying around large sums of money.

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Hey guys!

I'm heading to Cannes with gf for a short holiday in April. I would also like to play some live cash. Some sources state that cash games in Cannes are extremely poor and almost non-existant. However some other sources state that there is 5/10 and 10/20 NLHE up and running. Does anyone have some updated info on current cash games in Cannes?

Thanks!

Re: Where to play poker in France ? (LIVE POKER)

Here is the info :
daily games at the Poker Room Cannes Croisette (they have a facebook page), from 3 p.m to 3 a.m.
2 or 3 tables on average, blinds 5/10 (buyin 250) or 10/20 (buyin 500).
Apparently a few old local regs, some Russian/Ukrainian, some tourists (who don't always know the rules).
Trip report if you go
