Day 17 6/25/2010

So I did some like SS and stuff today.

Squats:

3x5x285 (+10lbs)

Bench:

3x5x185 (+10lbs)

Rows:

3x5x145

Ok so, today sucked. I definitely gave myself a nice solid punch to the nuts with my two days of RFL. Really isn't a better way to put it.

I highly recommend to everyone not to do two random days of RFL during your SS stint. Not that anyone else would be stupid enough, but yeah.

I mean, it was great that I was still able to move up on squats and bench. Was definitely happy with that. But where I had felt stable and strong days before, I felt shaky and weak today. Clearly I still gained strength, but I definitely stunted it somewhat.

Either way, glad that that is out of the way, and will continue eating at a surplus this weekend then move back to maintenance again.

Day 18 6/28/2010

The day I found out 295lbs was heavy as ****.

Squats:
3x5x295 (+10lbs)

Press:
2x5x130
1x4x130 (Booooooo)

Deadlifts:
1x5x350 (+15lbs)

Today felt like 20 times better than Friday. Squats were absolutely awesome. I'm able to get both hands inside the rings with my grip (I cherish the small victories). And that helped a ton with keeping my back tight, and just overall made the whole lift feel a lot smoother.

In other news, it was heavy as ****. But I'ma be lifting 300+ Wednesday so its all worth it.

I've come to the conclusion that nom nom'ing good food and lifting heavy ass weight is a lot more fun than eating like a 100lb girl (no offense).

Press was annoying. I just felt really weak in my shoulders today for whatever reason. Probably from almost a week and a half of not doing presses. Should be ok to do 135 Friday I think. Big boy plates!

Deadlifts are my bitch. Pretty much all there is to that.

yeah now we're talking.. g0g0g0 70sbig! Don't be afraid to cut your gains to 5 lbs per workout if you get close to stalling, but also keep being a greedy bastard and adding 10 lbs while you can!

I'm thinking more a happy medium between string bean and 70s big.

I still really can't wait to get to cutting off my fat, but I'm going to be patient.

Adding more strength then cutting is wise imo

Be patient, you won't regret it down the road. Your gains are so insane, congrats. Wish I could of kept making such huge jumps for so long. I struggle with 5 & 2.5 jumps at lighter weights, lol. I guess I'm much smaller, but still.

Thanks, and thats essentially the conclusion I came to. Just doesn't make sense to stop now when I'm still making big gains. Slow and steady wins the race I suppose.

And its not like nom nom'ing bbq, beer, and ice cream all summer sucks.

Day 19 - 6/30/2010

Squats:
1x5x305
1x4x305 (bleh)
1x5x305 (+10lbs)

Bench:
1x3x195
1x4x185 (my shoulder is dead)

Rows:
3x5x155 (+10lbs)

Meh, crappy workout.

Squats were good, but I took too short of a break between my first and second set, resulting in my fail.

My shoulders were really bothering me today, they were sore the previous few weeks, but they were sore and weak today, which resulted on my fail on the bench.

Rows were fine.

Not sure what to do about the shoulders, thinking about taking a week and just go light with my presses. Would that be a good idea?

Look at toothy's log, cha has given him a bunch of good advice for shoulder rehab there.

are you VERY CONSCIOUSLY keeping your shoulder/shoulder blades tucked, back, and down? That takes a lot off of the shoulder

I think that is part of the problem. I think I'm going to just do a reset on my bench, and work on my form and see if that help at all. And if not, start doing some more specific rehab type stuff.

This log put me on life tilt. thanks

ETA: It looks like you could go a few inches lower on your squats. Not completely sure from the videos. Try getting a video from the side at knee level.

Yea I agree that I think my depth is good. I do think I'm losing a little bit of tension in my lower back though.

Do you stretch and warm-up your ham strings and hips enough? Both prior to squatting and doing static stretches on off days? Having tightness in your hams, can cause you to lose the tightness in your lower back at the very bottom (commonly called butt wink).

ETA It doesn't LOOK bad in the side video.

Yeah I do quite a bit of hip and ham stuff pre-workout.

Probably should make a point to do more on off-days though.

No doubt, I was just giving my friend a hard time.

Zomg-

Squat critique. Sorry if this has been mentioned already, I havent read the entire log. Your knees cave in a bit on the way up, and also looks like you are coming forward on the toes (some reps more then others). Work on actively keeping the knees pushed out over the feet the entire time, especially when coming out of the bottom. And try and focus on staying back on the heels more.

Nice log and impressive results. Keep up the good work.

Day 20 - 7/2/2010

Squats:
1x5x315 (+10lbs)
1x4x315
1x3x315

Press:
3x5x95 (Gonna stop pressing, bench and shoulder, for a while, shoulder was still hurting at this weight.)

Deadlifts:
1x5x315 (Just had nothing left in the tank after Squats. Tried 365, but it just wasn't happening. So I decided to do a slight reset to 315.)

Definitely am going to have to scale back on increments and start micro-loading. Although I may just go with moving to an intermediate program soon. Not sure.

Ok so, feel free to troll this decision but;

In lieu of my injured shoulder, and the fact that I'm starting to stall on my lifts. I'm going to start my cut, and then move to an intermediate program. I know that I could probably still bang out 15-20 more lbs on my lifts via eating moar. But getting fatter just isn't an option for me.

So I'm going to start with RFL for 2 weeks to kick start things, and to try it out, and then move to a more normal diet afterwards. My goal is about 10-12% BF, probably in the higher range of that, and then from there I'll probably do another bulk come winter.

Just had to be honest with myself that losing the fat is more important to me than lifting heavier weight.
