You're almost certainly dead-on with your apnea diagnosis of me, but before I get fitted for my mask, let's first see if dropping 100+ helps any.

I probably wouldn't wait that long. It sounds very likely that you do have sleep apnea and it's no joke. It's also definitely possible to still have it at a lighter weight.

Congrats on a good first weigh-in.

It may help, but even at 280 it's still likely to be an issue. And it is quite damaging. I weigh 210 lbs and still have a moderate case of it. If I was heavier it would probably be worse, but it's still worth risking.

The mask would be fine either way. But you also don't have insurance IIRC, so that's a concern, the machines are usually leased-to-own. And having some coverage first would be helpful. Keep it in mind. It could save your life. And it certainly is a quality of life issue. Getting solid rest is amazing and if you haven't experienced it, you'll be a changed man. Getting into work by 10 was a struggle for me and I'm up before 7 every day with no trouble now. When I was working out early in the mornings, even getting up at 4:45 to go to the gym was very easy.

Poster and fellow OOTiot RiverFenix was kind enough to oblige this request.

Sort of.

The initial test is super easy, just a light on your finger that measures Oxygen and you sleep with it. Then they come pick it up the next day and you see if you make it to the next round. Second round is more, you have to go sleep somewhere and get hooked up to all kinds of probes, and possibly hook you up to a machine if they get enough samples to know if you have it.

That isn't even the one I wanted to upload. Photobucket is being ridiculous and not letting me change it to this one.

All in good fun

Of course. I'm LOL'ing all over again.

I even thought about making it my new avatar, but as your newest gif suggests, I'm pretty strongly identified with the old one, so it's tough to replace.

17 pounds?!!! Yeah that doesn't seem possible. But if you were eating 10000+ calories per day before, then yes.

Who cares. Good job.

FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2012

Omelet and sausage for breakfast
salad with 7 oz chicken breast for lunch
Teriyaki bowl (7 oz chicken, bag of rice, steamed broccoli and carrots, 'yaki sauce) dinner.
banana snack.

About 1900-2000 cals, total.

Couldn't wipe the smile off my face today, after that weigh-in.

that's a good day of eating.

The 17lbs isn't too crazy because a lot of that is water weight. Just reducing carbs to normal levels will have that effect early on. It will taper off at some point. Just be aware of that.

And of course you might even have weeks where you weigh in at +2 or something, but it'll be because you lost 2lb of fat and gained 4lb water weight or whatever. The trick is to not react to this with "ZOMG I have to change everything and drop 800 calories and run 16 miles and sacrifice a chicken", just chill and see how it progresses. If you stagnate or gain for a few weeks in a row, then you can consider why you're plateauing and make corrections. The poker analogies are obvious, but who the **** on here still plays poker anyway.

I very much believe in weighing yourself every day. Yes there will be a lot of variance but you will come to expect it and going up or down won't be a big deal as logn as the trend is down and you stay under your calorie goal.

Weighing just once/week - purely by variance you can easily sometimes be higher one week than the last despite having hit your calorie goal, this can be very disheartening.

Just before Black Friday, I got a phone call from an old friend I hadn't heard from in years. We were both doing well with poker and sports betting 5-10 years ago. I'm completely finished with both now; he was long done with sports, and really wanted to quit poker (but he was SuperDuperStar or whatever you call it on PokerStars, where they comp you so much it was very tough to walk away from). His quote, which I'll never forget: "So....there's no more easy money out there any more, is there?"

Ouch. I've always liked weekly weigh-ins, so I want to disregard this, but goofball is a big reason why I'm here, it's tough to disagree with him.

But it's been my experience that I don't react positively to those daily fluctuations, and can handle the OCCASIONAL weekly digression much better than the frequent daily ones, so I've got to stick with weekly.

BTW, if I stick with this and put on 10 pounds this week, I'm ready for that--I've never HEARD of anyone losing 17 lbs in a week before, a "correction" would neither surprise nor discourage me.

stick with what you're comfortable with. it doesn't really matter.

Everyone is different regarding how often to weigh themselves. I always preferred every day, but there are good arguments for less frequent weigh-ins. Just do what you think is best for you - it doesn't matter much.

And I doubt you will see a significant correction. I've lost up to 8 pounds the first week when jumping on a diet after putting on significant gains, and my max weight was only 240ish. Typically I would go something like 8,5,4,3,2,2,2,2,1,1,etc.

This is why I weigh myself daily but whatever you prefer, there are downsides to both.

To conclude: **** water weight
