Re: The Log That Put H&F on the Map: YouTalkFunny's Weightloss Log

Me too! It's the wonderful bread that makes me choose JJ's 8" subs over Subway's footlongs.

I grew up going to the Italian bakery every Sunday morning to get bread for Sunday Dinner (which the old-school Italians eat around noon). In Goodfellas, Liotta's voiceover during Henry's younger days even mentioned that his new status ensured that his mother didn't have to wait in line at the bakery for bread on Sunday morning. Now that I've lived in different parts of the country, when I phone home and report that if I want some fresh bread, I have to go to WalMart, they weep for me.

JJ's bread is so good, it reminds me of that bread we used to bring home from Pappy's Bakery every Sunday. It's the only fresh bread that triggers those memories in a good way, unlike that WalMart bread that has me thinking, "Why isn't there an Italian bakery around here?"

We don't need a "Bread: good or bad?" derail, you don't need to convince me to stay away from bread, I think the log shows that I certainly have, for the most part. But we DID need a "JJ's Bread: Yummy or not?" derail.

JJ's bread is great if you like to chew on something that shares the texture of bread but doesn't actually have any flavor.

Re: The Log That Put H&F on the Map: YouTalkFunny's Weightloss Log

You are a little confused about what makes good bread LKJ. Don't worry, subway will always be there for you with ****ty bread with spices shaken on top of it.

YTF,

The main thing i'd suggest is not ordering the chips with your sandwich. I think you'll find the sandwich is enough now. If for some reason you get to the end of the sub and feel like you are still hungry you can make a decision about what you want then. But getting out of the habit of always getting chips with a sandwich or always getting fries with a burger is going to be very valuable.

Re: The Log That Put H&F on the Map: YouTalkFunny's Weightloss Log

I haven't had a single french fry since starting this thing. And I've had potato chips 2-3 times, 4 tops, and don't feel like I've had too many at any point.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 2012

A carbon copy of Thursday: omelet and 3 sausage for brkfst, salad/ranch/chix for lunch, chix parm for dinner. No snack, 1990 cals.

Oh, and Gizmo, the book arrived yesterday, I"m about 40 pages in, pretty interesting stuff so far.

lol throughout this thread OP has interjected clips from both older and newer television series' and movies to illustrate his feelings or thoughts in nearly the the same manner a character called Martin Tupper used to back on a show called Dream On, which, if anyone remembers, aired on HBO in the early to mid 90's

MyFitnessPal sets my daily targets for calories and P/F/C. Right now, those targets look like this:

Calories: 2610
Carbs: 359
Fat: 87
Protein: 98

Usually, I stay under the calories by several hundred (which seems to make folks ITT question my reporting). I'm usually right at or just over on fat, way over on protein, and the only time my carb count goes over 100 is the days I eat pasta (which I'm gradually cooking less and less often).

I *used* to drink a dozen beers on Tuesdays. Now I sometimes drink a dozen beers on Tuesdays. I'm striving towards the next step, which is to rarely drink a dozen beers on Tuesdays.

That's hilarious that you mention that. I only saw a few episodes of it, but one that I did featured a young, pre-Friends Courtney Cox in lingerie. Even though I haven't even thought of this show in years, it just came up in conversation yesterday that the image of Cox in those black stockings is still vividly fresh on my mind.

This ten-minute clip from the show is pretty funny, and illustrates the "clips" style Dream On used, mentioned above. Or you can just skip to 9:30 to see the image I mentioned.

(Thank God YouTube has everything. She was even hotter in that shot than I remembered.)

EDIT: oops, forgot link:

YTF,

You shouldn't be eating chips w/ a big sandwich w/ mayo. Have an apple. Doesn't matter if it's only been 4 times, etc.

And it's not really a debatable point that you've been under-reporting a good amount. For awhile you were misreporting the amount of Ranch you used which you admitted to. Other gross under-reporting included a ribeye which you underreported by at least 400+ cals. I think a couple nights you grilled nearly a pound of chicken fingers and reported 1 tbsp each of BBQ and honey mustard which is a ridiculously small amount for that amount of chicken. And that's just what I can think of offhand. I suspect your chicken parm and pasta dinners are being under reported as well.

If you don't address that issue in the near future it will definitely cause problems with your logging and weight loss.

Does he really need to live a life of austerity? Or can he indulge occasionally so that he doesn't feel like he's in Dachau? Yeah, chips aren't optimal, but if it fits in with calorie and other goals, is it really that big of a deal to occasionally have some indulgences? YTF's had the problem in the past that he's felt quite limited (to say the least) in other attempts to lose weight. I wonder how he'll feel if some things are taken completely away from him. He might go to something to which 'not quite optimal' would be a massive understatement.

On the other hand, if those didn't fit in because of under-reporting, then it is an issue. One thing that got to me that YTF said a while ago was 'well, I had some sauce on something (I forget if it was BBQ or something else) and didn't even look it up because he was well under his goal for the day. The reason that got to me was that I think one of the things that I think started the process with YTF was his "holy ****!" moment about bagels. And I know he had one of those other moments in this thread (other one was in the OOT thread). I felt he was robbing himself of an opportunity to learn and then make better decisions--or at least more informed decisions.

It was more an attempt at a humorous re-reference than an analogy.
