I'm not sure if it's well known in ameritardia, but there are actually two variants of rugby. The East island dominates in one, but kind of sucks at the other one. The one they dominate is the most well known one around the world, but for some reason us on the mainland prefer the other one (personally I prefer the one the east island is good at, but I'm in the minority ).

CNN decided not to publish the name of the Reddit under out of concern for his safety. Any assertion that the network blackmailed or coerced him is false. The user, who is an adult male, is not a 15-year-old boy, apologized and deleted his account before ever speaking with our reporter. CNN didn't make any deal, of any kind with the user. In fact, CNN included its decision to withhold the user’s identity in an effort to be completely transparent that there was no deal.

To be fair there was no real reason for CNN to admit they knew who it was.

*HOWEVER* the flip side is that if leaked out that CNN did find out and did contact him there would forever be allegations that it was indeed "blackmail" and no amount of the truth would change the mind of those who (likely) already disliked CNN.

So the better course of action was to come out forthwith acknowledging they knew and had reached out regardless of timing of the guys apology and retraction. You can call it a shakey cover and defense for the possibility of "blackmail" but that's just an excuse to want to believe the evil.

There are only 5 top level Super 15 rugby squads, plus a lower tier competition that might not pay a living. Whereas there are 15 NRL league squads + several lower tier comps for that, and a similar number for Aussie rules. The top salaries are probably close, but the sheer number of opportunities in other codes I guess filters talent.
