Re: What are your thoughts on crossfit?
Many crossfitters are mediocre in many areas and seemingly proud of their mediocrity. In my experience, most don't want to learn about what they're doing. This applies to programming, strength, form, etc.
The men tend to be small and weak and the women tend to be hot, though occasionally androgynous.
Crossfit certs are kind of a joke and their trainers are not required to do very much at all to get the Level 1 certification to open a gym and begin training people. Lots of these types of trainers have completely retarded programming for their members. These examples are easy to find.
The same principles of Crossfit can be applied in a non retarded manner on top of a better strength base to get far superior results at most athletic endeavors, which include Crossfit itself. Yes, the best way to get good at Crossfit is probably by doing something else.

what are you basing this on
edit: nvm just seen ur log, i believe it is what you make of it. your goals may be different. but i've been doing crossit for awhile and have learned a great deal. while the rate of strength increase may be slower, i practice form and do increase weight over time. and if the goal is to get bigger, this is clearly not the program to use. i continue to do it because i enjoy the intensity of it and the variety of workouts

Re: What are your thoughts on crossfit?
crossfit is more effective than Tae Bo and P90x and 8 minute abs and walking in the park

Based on that video I would probably change occasionally to mostly.

Re: What are your thoughts on crossfit?
I didn't watch the video, just speaking to my experience.
Crossfit also can have a great social environment. The one I attended for a while always had people going out for drinks, concerts, etc. It's motivating to keep working out when you get along well with a group and they expect you'll be there. It's also probably great for business to have this model, if you're an affiliate owner.
On the same note, it can be weird and cult-like.
All the Chicago area affiliates that I'm aware of (there are about a million now) are way overpriced.
marl118, how long have you Crossfitted and what is your affiliate?

Nobody is saying crossfit isn't good at some things. But it isn't optimal for any set of goals, which to a group of poker players is a big deal.
It's still better than like 95% of the stuff out there, and that number goes up even more once you realize how to identify which workouts are dog**** and should not be performed under any circumstance. If you replace those workouts with something actually useful you can get faster progress and fewer injuries.

Re: What are your thoughts on crossfit?
i agree the affiliate gyms are too expensive. i go to a local gym with my bud, they have all the stuff there, jump boxes, setup for wallball throws, rows, and enough room to throw weights/jump around and crap
..they just dont have the rope climb
edit: and if you take a step back and look at it, it defiantly is a weird cult ahah

Re: What are your thoughts on crossfit?
Local box charges $149/month and uses terms like "drink the koolaid" "lose your lunch" "zone beer" non-ironically... :|

Re: What are your thoughts on crossfit?
i crossfit and have been for about 2 years now. i think my affiliate does a pretty good job with their programming and they do include a decent amount of strength days to ensure people are getting stronger and i know one of the owners/head trainers also follows SS but agree most affiliates are ****ty, trainers are ****ty/don't know much and can be very cult like.
