Bobbo's log part 2: (mostly)Subway diet Bobbo's log part 2: (mostly)Subway diet

I tried this last time and it failed but my situation is more extreme and as such I am that much more motivated to get it done this time. My rugby coach was giving me **** about gaining a bunch of weight and I figured it was no big deal like 10 pounds and I was just out of shape. I weighed about 240 at the end of the semester so I figured I was 250 tops. A couple days ago I check the scale to see...

272

WTF!!! The scale must be ****ed up right. I get on it again...271...five more times or so I figure I must weigh around 271 pounds. But this is ****ing ridiculous right. I pretty much look the same. But then I really look and the mirror and I see it. I FEEL it even...I'm almost doing the fat person waddle when I walk ffs. I thought it didn't matter...and maybe weighing 230-240 wasn't a huge deal because I figured that was as high as I would go and I didn't look that terrible..but I was dead wrong. I don't want to be the fat guy...hard enough to get laid as it is I don't need to be thinking how much of a fatass I am and if the chick thinks the same thing. Plus I don't want to turn into that huge fat guy if I get married and have kids or whatever...and it will be hard to avoid that if I start out that way.

The Plan:

I will eat mostly Subway...combines my laziness and desire to eat fast food with reasonably healthy food. Also the footlong can be split in half and taste pretty good after being in the fridge for a couple hours...so it's pretty cheap compared to my usual Taco Bell and pizza(Yes I (used to)eat whole pizzas in one sitting regularly) I will probably consider furits and veggies as snacks in case I get hungry when Subway is closed.

The key here is I will not eat until I actually feel or hear my stomach rumble. When you're fat your body tries to trick the mind into being hungry about 10X before you actually are but I can see past it if I choose to.

Exercise- Obviously I'm not a huge fan unless it's some sort of sport. But I can burn a decent amount of calories on the elliptical at the gym before I get tired...though I used to be able to do much more. So that will be my plan if I consume more than 1000 calories in a day...which wil be most days. If I really **** up I will go multiple times during the day but I'll try to stay under 2000 eaten so I can finish it in one session.

Weight- I'll check it every day when I wake up...I know day to day fluctuations are misleading but I would like to know if I'm getting anywhere...though I won't flip out about one +weight day.

Anyone wants to give me any advice along the way it would be welcome...but I'd like to keep the plan simple for now...Subway + elliptical. When I lose a bunch of weight I'll probably go back to weights as well...and I know they help but I can never seem to focus on cardio when I'm doing weights as I just lift and skip cardio because I want to go home.

Monday morning weight:266

Dropped a lot of food/water weight as I was full when I had the 271 weight(which was Saturday night). Spent about a half hour on the elliptical and walked around the block a little...ate 3 cans of fruit and one footlong on the day

Is this serious? Like you're going to do this for an extended period of time? YOu are going to kill yourself. Eat healthy, but eat much, much more.

Yeah I'm pretty sure of all the ways I could possibly die, starvation ranks just above being hit by a blimp.

Obviously I'm I'm hungry I will eat more. The point is most people, fat people especially, trick themselves into thinking they're hungry. My body will tell me if it's starving, and if I would like to eat I am generally far from hungry. If I need to eat more I will simply exercise more. I've done something like this when I used to wrestle in HS, it might not be the most healthy but desperate times call for desperate measures.

What do you health experts think about the Subway diet? I'm basically on it for no other reason than I don't cook and it's pretty much the healthiest and most convenient thing to eat on a daily basis. I'm like 5'11, 160lbs so weight isn't really a problem but I worry if I'm getting all the nutrients I need. FWIW my typical order is a turkey, ham, or chicken breast on wheat with no cheese, lots of veggies and spicy mustard.

If you make a list of veggies and fruits that demands no preperation at all, you'll see its pretty long, eat that instead :-) + some protein source....

I would eat cold cuts/cured meats in moderation (or not at all) since they contain some preservatives that can be not so great for you. When I go to Subway, I like the Mediterranean Chicken, no cheese.

OK, so I think you have to dig at the root of the problem. First, you need to not be lazy. Yes, yes, easy to say, I know. But really, learn how to cook some eggs, make chicken, cut random vegetables into a salad (don't use too much dressing), or make some fruit salad. You cannot go for the rest of your life without knowing how to cook unless you marry a woman who knows how. Subway really is not the healthiest choice. Learn to cook!

This is one of the major problems with American culture/diet, imo. Taco Bell and pizza, both of which are extremely unhealthy, are basically staples of many young people's diets. Eat bananas, apples, celery, tomatoes, peppers, berries, and oranges on a regular basis and you will feel much healthier, happier, and less hungry.

I don't know the nutritional value of subway, but you should eat some fruit. also, get some calcium.

Tuesday morning weight: 263.5

Yesterday I ate 1 pack cheese crackers, 1 Subway footlong, and 1 can of fruit. Unfortunately no exercise but my intake was pretty low.

I've decided since my sleep schedule is often weird and I usually get hungry around 1 AM but don't want to sleep, I'll start counting each new day at midnight...as my gym closes around midnight and if I have a bad day food wise I want to be able to work it off at the gym.

I'm going to say this again, in a different way. You are being very unhealthy. 1 sandwich a day is a horrible, horrible diet. There are already several suggestions in this thread, and tons in the forum, that fit what you need. You have chosen the worst option possible.
07-15-2008 , 02:05 PM
It sounds like you want to diet in a way that causes the least disruption and inconvenience to your lifestyle. You'll lose weight if you keep up with eating one sandwich every day, but the long term prospects sound grim mostly because, well, you want to diet in a way that causes the least disruption and inconvenience to your lifestyle. You eat what's most convenient and what seems healthier than pizza/Taco Bell, but heathier than X isn't always healthy. What ever happened to varied diets?

you are still going to be somewhat flabby even if you lose a lot of weight, since your caloric deficit is probably going to be too high, and you are not eating enough protein to slow muscle loss. More muscle is going to be lost than should have been, you want to lose fat not weight.

Canned fruit is usually pretty close to candy fwiw.
07-16-2008 , 07:45 AM
1. Previous poster has it correct, canned fruit is crap.
2. Dehydration is a major source of hunger, and thirst is often mistake for hunger.
3. Several small meals is a key. 6 small meals will boost your metabolism instead of one larger meal which makes the body think its starving itself.

good luckl

Wednesday morning weight 265.5

Today I had 4 servings worth of fat free cottage cheese and 2 Subway footlongs. I also had rugby practice for about 2 hours and drank a gallon of water, so I figure the extra food and water increased my weight in the short term though my defecit was still about the same.

When I say 1 or 2 footlongs, I really mean 2 or 4 meals as I eat half right after I get it and save half for a few hours later.

This is going to be fairly short term; I certainly won't be doing it for my entire life. I will probably slowly expand into different foods but I want to focus only on weight loss right now. I have never been someone who is too small and has to build muscle; fat has been my main problem my whole life. If I could get to the point where I'm somewhat skinny but out of shape and lost a little muscle that would be great progress imo compared to being fat and out of shape with a little more muscle. Then I could focus more on overall health instead of a crash diet.

this

Nitrates will **** you up good. IMHO they should be next on the chopping block right next to trans fats.

http://www.organicconsumers.org/food...meat050305.cfm

"Nearly all processed meats are made with sodium nitrite: breakfast sausage, hot dogs, jerkies, bacon, lunch meat, and even meats in canned soup products. Yet this ingredient is a precursor to highly carcinogenic nitrosamines -- potent cancer-causing chemicals that accelerate the formation and growth of cancer cells throughout the body. When consumers eat sodium nitrite in popular meat products, nitrosamines are formed in the body where they promote the growth of various cancers, including colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer," says Adams.

"Sodium nitrite is a dangerous, cancer-causing ingredient that has no place in the human food supply," he explains. The USDA actually tried to ban sodium nitrite in the 1970's, but was preempted by the meat processing industry, which relies on the ingredient as a color fixer to make foods look more visually appealing. "The meat industry uses sodium nitrite to sell more meat products at the expense of public health," says Adams. "And this new research clearly demonstrates the link between the consumption of processed meats and cancer."

No offense, but this is a horrible eating plan. Anyway, do yourself a favor and at least limit the cold cuts.
