275 for breakfast (yogurt, fruit, crunch).

Packed are jerky (180), cheese (70), nectarine (70), chicken breast (345), carrots (70), and a small apple (80).

TBH I'm sort of banking on getting out of work really early today (we are usually overstaffed on Sundays, and I've politely asked those who come in ahead of me if they would defer going home and let me do so to work on my dissertation - all agreed, because for the most part everyone I work with is pretty cool), so I may not end up eating anything posted here and will adjust as necessary.

Also just watched the cat knead for like 3 minutes.

I ended up working only half an hour today. Ate the jerky, cheese, carrots, and nectarine on the way home. Was still hungry when I got home, so I made a bagel thin (exactly what it sounds like, a thin bagel) with strawberry preserves, 175.

Had breaded haddock filets with peas for dinner. I don't really like fish much, I'm going to try to acquire a taste by slowly phasing in real fish, but I'm starting with something I know I won't dislike, like breaded stuff. 3 small filets for 450, a huge serving of peas for 180. Added everything up, saw I didn't have enough for an ice cream cone, so finished off with a frozen fruit bar (70).

1540 for everything on the day.

What fish and preparations thereof have you tried and disliked?

All of them?

IDK, it's literally been years since I've tried. I had some in my teens and early 20s and it was always so....fishy. The smell of the fresh fish section in the supermarket turns my stomach, as does the smell of tuna when I give it to my cats.

And yet I don't mind fish patties or sticks, so I think there's some room to grow the **** up and acquire a taste for milder fishes and move up from there.

The problem really is knowing where to start and not wanting to waste money buying fish then tossing it because I'm a sissy child who doesn't like it. I'm pretty sure this is at least 50% mental or more.

Some simple ideas for mild fish dishes would be appreciated, but I'm also not sure I really need to force this issue. I like most other meats. But then I'm missing the omegas, but I could just take a supplement.

What part of the country are you in? The milder fishes regularly available ocean fresh on the east coast are:

- Haddock
- Cod
- Halibut
- Flounder or sole
- Tuna steaks
- Sometimes Mahi Mahi (also called Dolphin Fish)

My go-to healthy and very simple fish recipe is poached cod or haddock.

I get about a 3/4 pound boned and skinned filet per person. Use half water/half white wine for the poaching liquid. The poaching liquid should come about halfway up the filet when it's sitting in the pan. I also usually toss in a couple cloves of garlic or a few pieces of ginger.

Heat the poaching liquid so it's just simmering but not boiling. Keep spooning the poaching liquid over the filet. It takes about 10 minutes to cook. I then usually just salt and pepper to taste, and squeeze some fresh lemon juice on it. It's low enough in calories that you could make a cheese sauce or a white sauce to spoon over it if that's your kind of thing.

I also like just frying up flounder (no breading) in a no-stick pan with a bit of oil.

The critical thing with both of these options is the fish has to be super fresh. (Especially not previously frozen imo!)

For halibut or tuna steaks the grill is a great option -- but I think you mentioned not owning a grill?

I saw a haddock in with herbs and lemon or some such in the freezer section when I grabbed some more breaded filets, maybe I'll try that next time. As stupid as this is, I'm sort of intimidated to try

I did my one hour walk this morning. Pizza buns for lunch (405), bag of chips for a snack (yeah I know....230). 635 total so far, burgers and sweet potatoes for dinner.

You could make something like that yourself using fresh fish without much trouble, imo, and it would likely taste better fresh. Do you know a spice blend you like, either that you make yourself or that comes preassembled? If not, you might just scan the spice aisle for some sort of spice blend that sounds good to you, probably something mild and herb-heavy. Herb de Provance is a decent guess if nothing jumps out. Pick out something and a fish filet you're willing to take a chance on. Melt a tbsp or so of butter in a pan, and while it's melting, sprinkle some of whatever spice you chose on whatever fish you chose. If there's no salt in your herb blend, add salt and pepper, too. Put the filet (skin side down if applicable) in the pan, and cook until you can see the fish change color60-75% of the way through the thickness of the filet. Then flip and cook until 140 F or so. Add a squeeze of lemon and blammo, done. The above poaching recipe is legit, too.

I'll keep this things in mind as I work up the courage to try fish.

Dinner - small cheeseburger with pickles and A1 sauce. Bun (130), cheese (60), burger (245), condiments (10) plus 100 for oven roasted sweet potatoes. Throw in a hard cider (210).

755 total for dinner, 1390 on the day so far. Might have a fruit bar later. Actually probably will, just add the 70 now (1460).

I only ask about which fish and which preparations to try and make better suggestions, not to argue there's one true fish and one true preparation you should like. But I would think that most people would be able to find some preparation of fresh salmon, halibut, or ahi tuna that they find pretty good. The nice thing about fish is many preparations won't take too long or involve much work, esp. if you buy fresh filets.

Nice work so far.

Is there a reason you have the hard ciders with dinner pretty frequently? So many empty calories - 210 for 12 oz. Would help you long term to try and drink 0 cals mostly.

Because I like hard cider? I don't drink beer and unless I'm expecting company I don't want to waste part of a bottle of wine by opening it to only drink two glasses before it becomes meh.

I don't drink much. One a week or so. Yeah it's empty calories, but no more so than any other alcoholic beverage.

Otherwise I do drink 0 calories. Water or diet soda, the only two exceptions are the occasional alcoholic drink and smoothies I'll make as a meal replacement sometimes.

Also, a picture of the paper I've been working on for the last four years. It should have been done at least 1.5 - 2 years ago, but I dragged my feet something terrible because I loathed doing it. But I'm almost at the end now, I have the oral defense next month:
