Hi everyone!

So I have decided to make several life changing goals this year. One of them is to lose a lot of weight. I have been super overweight most of my life and have blamed it on several things: depression, lack of social life, etc.

I haven't weighed myself in a while but if I had to guess I would say that I am 6'3" and weigh between 380-390lbs. That's super embarrassing to admit.

But the worst is over, because starting this weekend I am going to do something about it.

I am cleaning out my fridge and buying some better foods. I also plan on walking 10,000 steps everyday.

When I get to under 350 and prove to myself I am serious about this, I want to buy a treadmill for my basement.

When I get to under 300 I want to buy a gym membership.

My goal is to get to 220-225.

I will try to post as much as I can on here and talk about choices I am making and ideas others have given me. I do have a friend who wants to help and she wants to get me in yoga and meal prepping. I don't know if I am at Yoga yet, I want to start small, start drinking water and lots of it and cutting back on all the junk in my life.

Thanks for reading!

Good luck.
Your plans for nutrition and exeecise seem decent.
In addition to walking, swimming and cycling also seem to be good activities for bigger guys.
Don't forget that your mind plays an essential Part in your journey. You have to make good plans and execute them.
I'm currently reading this book:

Get the gym membership now, this will give you more positive feedback once you get to 300.

How old are you?

Good luck.

I'm 34 years old.

I want to wait on getting the gym membership only because I want to know that I am serious about doing this. I would hate to get it and never use it or only use it once or twice. But I do plan on sticking to this and getting down there!

Day 1 (ish):

The plan was at midnight Saturday to have the junk food and what have you cleared out or consumed and start Fresh on Sunday. I ended up sleeping like 13 hours or something ridiculous. So I finished that project this morning and now everything is gone.

I went to the store and bought the lowest sodium Lean Pockets and Cafe Steamers available. I don't have a lot of time to cook, so I thought this would be a good starting point for now anyways. I also got milk, orange juice, bananas, yogurt, almonds...and salami (I had to have one thing in the house to snack on, sparingly).

Starting weight was lower than what I thought it would be: 379.4 lbs.

This afternoon and evening I drank about 2.1 liters of water. I also walked in total 6,220 steps. I thought that was a decent start considering how late in the day I officially started.

It's now 1:15am and it's the first full day of losing 157.4 lbs. I read on a website my ideal weight is around 222, so that's the target number.

I am using my fitness pal to track eating and exercise, it says I can have 2,420 calories a day plus anything I burn off during my physical activities. My goal is to eat 2,000 calories and not put back what I burn walking. It's not something I am setting in stone but anything in that ballpark I would consider a small miracle.

They say water intake is supposed to be half your weight in ounces, so I would need to drink a little less than 6 liters a day. I kept a 2 liter soda bottle and fill it up to track my water intake as best I can. I'm sitting here looking at it now shaking my head, 3 of these everyday?!? I mean once I start losing weight it won't be as much but to get me to 2 liters a day I need to be like 270lbs. I probably haven't been 270 lbs in the last 7-8 years! It also doesn't help that I am not a water person. I hate water, I would drink just about anything else besides water. It might be because water is what we drank when there was nothing else in my house growing up. I don't know, either way not a fan of this too much.

I also have a pounding headache right now. My friend thinks it might be from the drastic drop in food consumption. I'm hoping it's just from a weird sleep schedule and getting back to the normal patterns will help it go away.

Thanks for reading!

Couple of quick tips:
Don't stress out about the water. It will not make a significant difference weight- or healthwise.
Be careful with the almonds. Nuts are very calorie dense. Also, be careful with the milk and even more so with the OJ. Liquid calories are not recommended. Fruit juice is not "healthy", it is sugary water.
2000 cal per day would be a huge accomplishment, but right now it is probably more important that you manage to adhere. If increasing the cals to something like 2400 means there is a bigger chance you stay on track, do it!!
Did you use to drink soda instead of water? That could explain the headaches. Don't be afraid of drinking diet soda, coffee, tea. (Moderate) cafeine intake is not a bad thing.

Good luck!

I think you're right about the headaches. I did crush a lot of soda this weekend, I had a "last taste of freedom" thing Saturday so that might have been it.

I take about 1 oz. of Almonds and mix it in with the yogurt. Almonds stat line is: 160 calories, 130 from fat, 14g total fat, 200 mg Potassium. I drink 1 cup of milk and OJ a day. So I try to keep those three things to a minimum.

Thanks for the advice!

I do not have a food scale, most of my stuff is pre-packaged so I follow the serving suggestions on the side. Most of what I have can't be measured out, but if I get into specific meal prepping and such I will be sure to get one!

Day 2:

So quick update from last night. Whatever headache I had passed while I was at work overnight. I "rested my eyes" for a few minutes and when I woke up it was gone around 5am.

I was going to skip out on walking today. I was ready to use the excuse of "I don't feel good, my head's killing me, my eye is watery, my nose is running, blah blah blah." Even after I felt better and was 2 hours away from work being over I was ready to pack it in for the day.

But I didn't...

I stuck to my original plan of walking from downtown to the casino to use my free play and walk back into town. I also treated myself to a 12 oz. comped Mountain Dew. I figure I earned it being on this diet for what 18 hours lol. I think that will kind of be my one cheat thing. I only go down there a couple times a week. Google maps shows it as 1.5 miles each way taking about 31 minutes. I also did some other walking around the apartment, at work (getting better at keeping my iPhone on me) and managed to knock out the 10,000 steps and then some.

Overall tonight I feel a lot better. Sleep was a little hit or miss during the afternoon but overall I feel okay.

Some interesting numbers are emerging from my fitness pal:

According to my scale at home, I lost 3.6 pounds already....I'm sure that number is a little fluctuating. Something similar to winning 3.6 buy-ins playing one session of NL. I'm sure it means almost nothing.

Sodium I was way over for today: Target was 2,300mg and I had 3,624mg
Potassium I was under: Target: 3,500mg and I only had 1,665mg

I had 0 Trans fats, so that was good.
I was under my cholesterol intake: Target was 300 and I had 289

So yeah, seems like I am on the right track, it also looks like I will hit 350lbs by June/July and will be in the market for a treadmill!

Thanks for reading and following!
