poker and gym

I am a regular grinder playing at least 6 hrs per day poker. I will try to add weightlifting and cardio training in my routine because i became fatty unfortunately. From your experience is better to train before or after a poker session

I read that is better to train early in the morning because this way you burn lot of calories but i fear of being tired after the workout. When you train and why?

Re: poker and gym

I always workout before my poker session, mainly because I feel good after a workout and that carries over into the poker world =)

Re: poker and gym

Beginning the of the day is best imo, but really it depends. Working out = more energy throughout the day imo just tired at night.

Don't worry about burning yourself out, unless you like completely exhaust your body I think you'll be fine for playin some pokah =p

I like to hit the gym as a break between SNG sessions.

Before and in between sessions, find it helps to wake up for first session and then break up the grind in between

Ugh wrong forum?

Anyway, it pry is better to do it beforehand to get those endorphins buzzin, u will play good, but anytime is good. If u workout and then go to bed u will wake up feeling better than if u ate Doritos all nite instead

Re: poker and gym

if it wasn't for the gym and also having a good sx life i would never have survived my current downswing. for me it is very important to get to the gym and do exercise regularly as it keeps you on top of your mental game

Re: poker and gym

Morning will make you feel better throughout the day, but it does not burn any more calories. If you run 2 miles, you'll burn the same amount of calories at 10pm as you will 6am. And for most of us, all the working out in the world isn't gonna matter if you don't eat right.

Re: poker and gym

I lift weights before my session (also 6hrs) and run afterwards.

Lifting weights first means I am calm during my session whilst running afterwards burns off any excess energy that I've gained from grinding

If I am doing two sessions (4.5 hours each) then I lift between and run after

but just experiment - do whtever works for you

Re: poker and gym

With my experience I can say that I get super tired after serious workout. I can only do them on days off, or if I do them I will definately play suboptimally that day.
