pius's ss and lose the fat/gut log

hi everyone,im gonna give it a go starting today following a diet and actually counting calories.
im 38 5'9 and weigh 198lbs. just wanna give everyone a fair warning im not the greatest typer/writer and im pretty unorganized.
ok so here is my story,in my 20's i was in good shape lifted weights lots of cardio ectect then i got married and got a job as a union ironworker, if anyone is unfamiliar with what an ironworker does i will give you a rundown, it is a ballbusting ,****ty hard way to earn a living usually only roughtnecks and uneducated guys end up doing it as a career sadly for me i fit right in lol.
anyways the long and short of it there is just no way of lifting weights after doing that **** all day so from 28- 35 there was no gym in my life. i did manage to stay in pretty decent shape just from the type of work i did so i never became overweight or had a gut ect ect.
in 2006 i discovered nlh and by 2008 i had quit my job and poker became my my fulltime job. january of 08 i officialy became a "pro". luckily for me poker has been a dream come true i grinded my dick off and life has gotten much better. only problem is i became a FAT ASS . i literally player poker 16hours a day 7 days a week for the 1st 6 months and was able to move up through the stakes into bigger games where my earnings were greater. only problem isi was on the computer nonstop and doing zero excercise and eating like ****. for the first time in my life i had a gut and felt like total ****.so i got back to the gym in early 2010. i went right back to what i used to do in my 20's,a bodypart split FML what a waste of time. i got literally zero results besides gaining fat.i always thought just eat as much as you can and lift weights and all will be good , sadly for me this is not true. the gut got bigger and i gained lots of fat. so i pretty much wasted my time up untill feb of 2012 when i discovered squats and starting strength. prob best i mention that when i was doing these gay ass split body part workout routines i never did any lower body. ughhh.....
so fast forward to now.
today is my 1st day i have ever attempted to count calories and actually watch what i eat.
my goals are simple, lose the gut, and get as strong as i possibly can.

here is the diet im planning on following

breakfast- 6 raw cage free eggs mixed with 1/4 cup breyers vanilla ice cream and 1/2 cup 1@ milk. and i greek yogurt. 750 calories and 65 grams of protein.

hit the gym

post workout 16 oz glass of 1% milk-250 calories 16 grams protein

dinner- will always be either fish, steak, burger ect along with salad ,plain potato, roughly 800 calories and 50 grams protein.

then throughout the day 2 chicken breast and 2 more greek yogurts.


im at about 2400 calories and and 200-230 grams protein.


for the record i can polish off 5k calories in a day with little problem ,i have a really good appetite. lol maybe too good


supplements are multi vitamin and omega 3 fish oil pills

stretched for 20-25 mins and 5 mins on treadmill


squats bunch of warm up sets

3 working sets 3x5x195

incline barbell press bunch of warm ups

3 working sets 2x155x5 was easy and 1x165 was also pretty easy

deadlift
2x135x5 warm up 1x225x5 also warm up set

working set 1x275 x4 failed 5th rep

looks like today was a very good day diet wise. 2355 calories 216 grams of protein all from real food.

I know you used to work out previously but those are some pretty impressive numbers to start with.

hey thanks for responding. yeah i mean iv'e been lifting pretty consistently for the past 4 months so i wouldn't say these are my starting lifts . that being said, i think i can go up weight each workout on squats and deadlifts. will def post some form videos at some point.

pretty good day diet wise today.

2480 calories

200 grams of protein.


i must admit not being able to eat what i want when i want is a bit tougher than expected. oh well im sick of this gut more than i like to eat i geuss. will be back at the gym tomorrow.

I (and many others) found it to be a great way to eat (ie control calories and not feel like **** all the time) while cutting.

FWIW if you're trying to lose weight, counting calories is great but you may want to count to a lower number.

Also, if you're not working a reg 9-5 and working out in the morning anyway, I'd strongly consider IF/Leangains.

Yeah I was going to ask the same thing. Cals are probably a little too high. you should be closer to 2k/day. I'm also really not getting the ice cream and milk part. Those are the kind of foods you eat when bulking for the most part

I got no problem with the ice cream if it fits, but wtf do you get when you mix raw eggs with vanilla ice cream and milk (and why)?

How does vanilla ice cream(in the AM) and milk ever fit with fat loss?

I realize one can make it work and fit with macros but there is always a better alternative to ice cream.
