That's my plan from now on. I'll make something like broccoli florets with flaked almonds in the evening for dinner and keep some for the morning.

Ate some http://www.tesco.com/groceries/produ.../?id=279361507. Amazing soup, 36kcal per 100. Too bad it was soup of the month and I think no longer available, I would have stocked up.

I either over-exercised or overexposed myself to sun. Feeling very empty today. Hopefully I'm recovered by tomorrow but that's not certain. I'm going to chill out and get a bunch of work done. My tiredness and upcoming sedentary nature would normally lead to me scoffing beacoup de calories. Perhaps I'll pig myself on low calorie vegetables to stave off temptations.

Get someone to pay you to eat the crisps.

Once you associate crisp eating with money... have that person take the money away.

Paying someone to do something is one of the best ways to make sure he never enjoys it again, provided the sum is significant enough money becomes the main goal.

I did a variation of this where I had a prize system for my girlfriend for buying "beautiful" shoes. At first I paid out almost all the time then I got pickier and pickier until she simply gave up. Now she only buys 4 or 5 pairs of shoes a year.

How brisk is your pace? Compare to this table: http://www.nutristrategy.com/activitylist4.htm

If you're setting a very brisk pace, as in say 4 mph or more you're probably not far off - but prob still high on the high side. Remember that you should deduct 150 cals or so which is what you burn just by existing.

This allows you to input your details, confirming a ~4 mph pace is needed: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calories.htm (778 kcals - 150 = 622).

Maybe I'm misreading things, but it seems you have an unhealthily short term view.

The idea is not to temporarily starve yourself into losing a few pounds (what most people think of as a"diet"); it's to find a new way of eating that you can stick with for the rest of your life. Obviously, the way you have been eating isn't working and if you go back to it after losing weight you can expect the same results you've gotten so far.

So you need an eating plan that is both healthy and realistic. I know, personally, that expecting myself to eat perfectly healthy every day is just setting myself up for failure. And when people fail on a strict diet they often just say "**** it" and go berserk eating everything that they've been denying themselves.

Some people try to plan their meals with just a tiny amount of whatever "bad" food they crave. The problem they usually face is portion control. Are you going to be able to eat only 4 potato chips if the rest are just sitting in the bag waiting for you?

I find it better to plan out "cheat days" or maybe just "cheat meals" where literally anything goes (every other Saturday works for me). There is some evidence that going overboard once every couple weeks while eating at a caloric deficit the rest of the time is better for your hormonal balance.

The secret to these is that you don't keep the cheat foods around the rest of the time. The morning of your cheat day (or meal), you go out and buy whatever you plan on eating that day. When it's over, anything left goes in the trash. You cannot expect yourself to refrain if you keep junk food around the house all the time. You will get hungry, you will get tempted, and you will eventually give in.

Get a notebook and start logging every single thing that you eat. Everything. There is evidence that just the act of logging your diet changes it for the better, but this only works if you log everything.

Keep up the walking. You may want to find a place to swim as well. Swimming is very good for you and is very low impact on your joints. Being in the water also forces your body to burn more calories just to stay warm. If you enjoy yoga, you could do that as well.

Losing weight is 90% diet, so that's where to focus most of your energy. Just make sure you move at least some every day.

Best of luck.

So roughly 3 mph, which according to the BB calc works out to 513 kcals - 150 for existing = 363. That might be slightly too low but if so I doubt more than negligibly so. It's better to underestimate than to overestimate anyway.

@crashjr: If anything I sleep too much. The last couple of days I've woken up early then slept a couple of hours more. So my posting times may make it look like I'm only sleeping a few hours but I'm getting more.

@BigPoppa: you raise valid points but i) I'm so fat right now that I just want to drop 30 lbs pronto. It is affecting my energy and self confidence & I don't think it's healthy to run at my current weight. So I might break rules for a couple of months.

I'm generally very good at dropping weight when I commit and start logging so I'm confident I'll drop 30 lbs pretty soon. I do tend to put it back on (and more, which really sucks!) so once I'm nearing a reasonable weight I need to focus on losing while making sure it stays off. BTW, I've eaten goose fat, mac n cheese, bread, shandies, ice cream, skin on chicken thighs ... all in 4 days of logging. I'm just going a little hungry now and then.

@Soulman: I thought calories lost was excess calories only. Interesting.

@All: Ate that grapefruit last night. Helped fend off some hunger. One thing I've noticed these past few days is that I'm waking up really hungry, and that's a new feeling. No pigging for dinner + no eating for a couple of hours before bed + 7 to 8 hours sleep = should be hungry so it's amazing and telling that morning hunger is such a novelty. Eaten quite a lot so far today. Nothing excessive but I am planning a light dinner.

Eat a yogurt right before you go to bed. You shouldn't feel starving at any point, even when you first wake up.

Just remember that fruit is mostly just fructose. So it was much the same effect on your weight as sugar. Don't snarf down a boatload of fruit thinking it'll help.

I am pretty sure both of those yogurts you guys suggested are ~$25/bite. afaik OP is a rich so it's probably not an issue but I remember somebody told me to get Fage once and I was going to until the cashier at the grocery store denied my loan application.

Ate OK today. Salmon with potatoes and spinach. Some other stuff. Ate too many potatoes and they were cooking in a pan in goose fat. Didn't go crazy on the goose fat but I think I'm gonna try and move to boiled potatoes with lots of flavouring and a tiny bit of butter.

Cooked a bunch of broccoli florets in sesame oil with salt, garlic, soy sauce and flaked almonds. Was sensible with the sesame oil but I should measure it out so I know exactly how much I'm putting in. It's kinda easy to put "1 tablespoon" in then find out it's actually 3. Ate a little of the broccoli but it's mostly for tomorrow & there is oodles of it. Will down a bunch of it in the morning, hopefully it will stave off the craving for bread. Really really craving bread right now. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm bread.

Really recovered well during the day. Think I'm going to be able to get another walk in tomorrow and/or some muscle work. Infection is getting better too. Woo.

Days without crisps: six.

I cooked a bunch of broccoli last night. Ate it this morning. Didn't crave carbs. Had a really great diet day. And walked for an hour. Don't have any veggies cooked for tomorrow but I plan it as a regular thing.

BTW I already look a *lot* better facially. Younger, healthier, handsomer. It's amazing what eating well and exercising does for your face. I'm sure I'll look much better at 220 down from 250 than at 220 up from 205.
