Re: orange's diet/martial arts and rock climbing log

Going to attempt to start this up again. Also bumping it before the update.

I've stopped going to BJJ due to costs...I couldn't justify spending like $150 a month with BJJ + Rock climbing gym when I'm unemployed (thanks DOJ). I'm dedicating myself more to climbing these days since I enjoy it more (though I really enjoyed BJJ as well).

Went on that road trip across the U.S.; posted some TRs in the Rock climbing thread in OOT. It was great.

I injured my finger really badly in November and it's taken all this time to heal. Climbing injuries with fingers are definitely annoying and they take forever to heal. I'm working on getting my strength back though.

Goals right now: Continue to climb 4-5x a week. Continue to focus more on leading longer routes and up my endurance. Work on flexibility and overall stamina.

Work on my diet. I've been eating like **** lately so I need to cut my portion sizings down. Same story every day for me.

I've been debating doing Warrior Dash this summer with some friends. I have no doubt I can do it; but I wonder if it's even worth going to.

Will try to update at the very minimum once a week.

Re: orange's diet/martial arts and rock climbing log

2/5/12- Rock climbing for 2 hours. Finally finished a tough climb that I've been working on for the past few weeks, really happy about that. Still working on my overall climbing endurance. Diet today was horrendous due to the superbowl- I calculated that I ate a 2500 calorie dinner. Hopefully I can spend this week losing the weight and washing it all out.

cardio day, no rock climbing. ran 1.5 miles @ weakass 9 minute pace and then biked 6 miles at a decent pace (can't recall the #s). sat in the sauna afterwards. probably going to try to up this as it gets closer to spring.

Re: orange's diet/martial arts and rock climbing log

2/16/12-

got over my funk...went through about a 3 climbing session span where i was just climbing like total dog ****. not sure what it was...just incredibly weak all around. i did cardio a few times and after my break, i was good.

today i climbed for probably 2 hours. most of my sessions are about 1.5-2.5 hours i'd say. working on this really tough route right now...i've got the first crux nailed, but the top is difficult and i'm gassing out.

need to up my endurance. i'm going to try to lead the arch and then downclimb from it after. from page 1, here is a picture of my gym-

it kindve sucks bc it's part of a bigger super gym, but it's close by me and the people are cool. and it's big enough where we can set some decent problems.

still struggling with my diet. i've rediscovered my love for root beer floats and have had them the past few days. sweets in general i need to cut out...but ya. portion sizing has actually been pretty solid and i've been eating clean this week.

I was reading this & wondering why I hadn't seen it before...glad you're back to updating.

I'm fighting my diet too, trying to cut down the bf%. I'm pretty good at protein but a bit high on calories, end up around maintenance.

Re: orange's diet/martial arts and rock climbing log

damn, that gym is crazy...i checked out my local gym (arcadia rock climbing) and all the walls are pretty short and nobody really top ropes, its all bouldering...not sure how i feel about this, but i went last night and had a great time doing some VB,V0,V1 and failing hard on V2s

glad you are back to updating this...hopefully you get out of your funk...

Re: orange's diet/martial arts and rock climbing log

2/18/12-

climbing for maybe 1.5 hours. working a new project climb, it has a bunch of slopers. should take me a few climbs to get it clean but i think i should be able to soon.

my diet has included way too many sweets lately. i'm going to find a way to punish myself if i have one more damn root beer float in the next few days. also need to include some more cardio in my workout. took friday off and tried to rest my body. tomorrow i'll probably go climb for another few hours (maybe aerobic yoga too but i doubt it) and then monday i'll do cardio.

Re: orange's diet/martial arts and rock climbing log

cardio 2 days in a row (monday/tuesday)...weather was nice so i took advantage of it.

2/21/12- i went climbing for about 1.5 hours and it went really well. those two days off helped me a ton and i really felt alot stronger today. i'd like to work on my sloper strength right now...i'm decent on crimps and really big power moves. but when the grip isn't as good, i really need to work on that type of strength right now.

anyhoo, ya...really happy with the way i've been climbing lately.

diet wise, i've been cutting down some carbs and lowering my sodium but still eating too many sweets. i've also increased my greens, which is good, but still need to really just watch my sweets consumption.
