So bro's heres my christmas present, reaggravated lower back

after 6 mo's of increasing weights and not a single bit of pain or uncomfort in my back, I deadlift for one set of 5 conventional instead of sumo and all of the sudden, I'm dealing with an ache and some discomfort when I squat.

Today I did 3x5x315 where a week ago i was pushing 3x5x360 no pain and today I felt an ache working on my last warmup set. during the three sets it wasn't enough to make me throw in the towel but required me to sit and stretch between sets to avoid the pain.

I love squatting more than anything except deadlifting and do not want to quit.

Whats the likelyhood of me being able to continue without an extended break?

How long should I avoid heavy squats?

I had to quit -14 mo's ago and it took a few months, but I am having a hard time believing that one set of deads could force me into having to cardiotard and give up my quads of steel.

eta: I hadnt conventional dl'ed in a very long time and although the weight was pretty easy it was likely too heavy for my first dl set back. facepalm.jpg obv

Anyone have a recommendation for weighted vest?

I'll only be using it for walking and maybe some bodyweight stuff. Looking to spend around $150ish tops, though less would be cool. I'd prefer not to look like a nutjob walking around the block obv.

Looking at this one:

Or one of the Mir weighted vest which are all pretty similar.

These are always questions that only you can answer.

It takes practice to understand your own body at the gym. It took me about 6 years and 2 pretty bad back pains (one from squats and one from DL) to understand when I was lifting too much weight or when something went wrong midset and had to stop immediately. Both injuries resulted when I kept going after I hurt myself

Just keep it light until the discomfort goes away, it's just not worth it to ignore your pain and push yourself more than you should. The squats will still be there once you've fully recovered

My parents gave me a small palm tree. I got curious and ordered some stuff to set up a simple one-plant hydroponics system. The plant doesn't need much light, so I don't have to worry about lamps. Seems like it should be pretty difficult to mess up this starter project.

If this works out, I'm thinking I might expand to a small garden in the apartment to get my micros. Does anyone here do this?

Damn, that's around the net cost of my system. Except I'd have to wait till March. Plus my setup is scalable to basically any size I can have in my place, so expanding will just take more containers and nutrients (and a light setup once I want to grow more demanding plants).

Had an outdoor potted soil garden last year with tomatoes, jalapeno and banana peppers, and some cilantro. It's pretty cool to grow your own veggies.

What sort of stuff are you trying to grow indoors?
12-26-2012 , 04:57 PM
For now I'll just see if it works with this palm tree. System parts bought on Amazon Prime, so I should set it up this weekend. If it's alive after 2 weeks, I'll consider expanding.

Ideal would be tomatoes and spinach, but I don't know if I can plant enough to get useful yield. I might try chili peppers and some herbs.

That's a real solid way to get your house raided
12-26-2012 , 05:20 PM
not actually tho

even if the cops knew you were growing a couple weed plants they wouldn't do anything, they only care about making the big headline >100 plant busts.

I guess they can monitor amazon shoppers purchasing a small fish tank pump and 2lb bag of fertilizer. Then match it up with a cash purchase for a 250W light bulb at a local home depot. Then they can get a warrant and come check out my tomato garden.

Will do. I'll probably start a wp blog with progress pics too.

In after people taking me seriously. There have been cases of large amounts of totally legal plants being grown indoors and leading to raids after police helicopters with equipment for scanning for heat thought they had grow ops.

Cha, they only have size 7, 7.5 and 8 in one colorway, only 7 in another, and the rest are out of stock. I wear a 13. From what I've seen they aren't making any more until July.

Tried to cancel my membership to globogym today, got the massive runaround then was offered two free months.

Fallbrook location: Only a manager can cancel your membership, and we don't have any managers here today. BTW, we just charged you for another month on Christmas when we weren't open.

Northridge location: We also don't have any managers here today, but this is a number you can call to cancel.

Woman on phone after a crazy long wait: I'll transfer you to someone who can cancel your account.

A different woman after an even longer wait: Want to "freeze" your account? Nope? How about two free months?
(not on a contract, so free to cancel as soon as free months are up)

So, I guess I came out on top (paid for 1 more month, got 3).

I know everyone is eagerly awaiting my test drive TR, lol. Test drove 7 cars today:

Chrysler 300 - didn't care for driving it at all, but the interior/exterior is very nice imo and steering wheel felt good in my hand. But the car seemed unwieldy and didn't enjoy driving it. This choice is out imo.

Infiniti g37 - "reeked" of luxury although that may have been b/c of the salesman's approach. Fun to drive, felt very tight/stiff but responsive and stuff...not sure how to describe driving properly but it felt v good but a bit tight, if that makes sense.

BMW 328i - Most impressive test drive and felt the most sports car-ish but that was mainly b/c he was the only one who told me to do a couple specific things (go 50mph then brake as much as possible & accelerate into a turn aggressively). I didn't care for some of the "cool features" like turn signally, it seemed weird imo.

The guy was saying since BMW's are balanced 50/50 from front to rear it makes it a much better car than everything else - is this at all true, just bogus, good in some ways but not in others?

Subaru Impreza - fine drive but a bit uninspired after the previous test drives, ldo

Subaru Legacy - felt better and more elegant than the Impreza so I crossed Impreza off my list. Not an exciting drive but not bad at all.

Acura TL - biggest letdown of the test drives. Car felt elegant, drive was smooth, but wasn't really fun - maybe it's b/c the test drive didn't have much freeway, but just seemed like a very nice but boring ride.

Volvo S60 - I think I had the most fun driving this one but it could have been due to driving last? I was quite impressed. Seat maybe felt the most comfortable of all and safety features seem really, really good.

Soooooooo, I'm kind of stuck. Should I drive the Audi A4 and Lexus IS 250? Or just stick with what I drove?

The Legacy is obv the best value, but man, those luxury cars were nice. For some reason I am most excited about the Volvo but I'm really not sure why.....I kinda feel I need to test drive them all over again (ugh) since there wasn't one that felt like "THIS is the car FOR SURE".

Price-wise, Infiniti has 3500 cash off by end of year, BMW 1,000, Acura nothing, Legacy the guy said he could go down to invoice price, Volvo has a very nice upgraded warranty package including "wear and tear"...

So I feel no matter what I choose I should do it soon.

More tips or advice? Will it be worth it to test drive the Lexus or Audi?
