Good point.

So the guy saying he lost 40 pounds of fat and gained 5 pounds of muscle probably lost 20+ pounds in water weight.

ty for the good words

MB's nomenclature is definitely less intuitive than the others' but it's not *too* bad outside of the S-chassis stuff

C class is your compact. Think Honda Civic or Lexus IS, though it is tangibly bigger than either. The 2013 C-class has an amazing interior now, go build one with the sport package and you'll see what I mean. so nice.

E is the midsize. Subaru Legacy, Audi A6, Honda Accord.

The S class is daddy. This is what Persian ballers roll around in. (7 series, A8)

CL - S class coupe. I can't believe there is a market for enormous coupes but there it is. (competes with nothing cuz its so wtf)

CLS - "4 door coupe"(look a the roofline) that is based off of the E-class. Essentially little more than a cool looking E class with an enormous price premium.(competes with Audi A7 and BMW 6 grancoupe)

slk is their entry level roadster, SL is their beast roadster

Both MB and BMW use part-time AWD vs full time. The 328i sedan *just* got a new model for this year so if you were going new this is something worth considering. The sedan makes 240hp and gets something like 34mpg highway. Maybe 32 I can't remember. Either way that's a **** ton of power and a **** ton of MPG. I've driven the same motor in a much heavier 5 series and definitely had more than enough power. Compare this to an IS250 which makes probably right around 200hp and it's rated at 27mpg hwy. Pretty incredible difference.

Oh, and the BMW is a bigger car. 8)

EDIT: Also probably worth mentioning that an all-new C class is in the works for probably '14 or maybe '15. It isn't nearly as dated as the IS(also due for a new model for '14) but if you want that "all new" you might feel a little scorn in a year or two. Either way, get ready for that cuz refreshes and new models never stop and I guarantee if you buy a brand new MB you're going to become somewhat of a car guy.

Also some people would rather have the last year of a model than the first year of a new model. The bugs and kinks of a model have mostly been worked out by the final year. YMMV

H&F n00b question: if you see someone struggling on the bench, is it rude to offer to spot them?

I typically work out alone so was grateful when some rando offered to spot me. I felt free to focus on form. But today i saw a guy benching a heavy load. His left arm was way off balance, like he was barely dropping it, whereas his right arm was making a full flex. After he finished a set I asked if he wanted a spot. He looked kind of insulted and laughed. I shrugged and said i had just noticed his left arm was a little off balance. He smiled, said, "Man, I've been doing this for 15 years," and turned away from me.

Who cares what other people are doing? Unless someone is about to die under the barbell I ignore them.

What is this, I don't even? Sounds like your jimmies are thoroughly rustled though.

Nah. Just curious. I typically ignore everyone, too, but wondered if the appropriate thing to do was pay it forward when i realized how much i appreciated someone offering to help me. Not possible for this guy to rustle my jimmies. Secret is to always have your jimmies rustled.

Thanks for quick responses. I'll refrain from flipping the guy off on my way out

You havent been using Edmunds like I told you to. The car maker web sites are basically useless. Everything you're asking for any car is on Edmunds.
Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo link

Mercedes C class sedan

Acura TL review
There aren't many better all-around luxury values than the 2013 Acura TL. Fresh off last year's styling tweak that brought the midsize sedan's front grille in line with the rest of Acura's lineup -- particularly its popular RDX and MDX crossovers -- the TL does just about everything well. It's also priced quite attractively when measured against comparable rivals..............

Use that site to learn about model specifics, options, pricing, read reviews, etc. before you take your test drives - it will be your best friend.

Nice answer by KP too.

Good to read as many reviews as possible and take note that any time they mention, in the most subtle of ways that they don't like something, it could be a real issue.

Some testers commented that that the visibility wasn't that good could translate to "It is impossible to see out of this car and everyone thinks so." I use R/T and C&D as well for reviews/info.

KP and Cha - there has been some confusion, I'm not even looking at Mercedes. I meant the Chrysler 300: they have a few different models and its' very difficult trying to figure out the real difference. I guess I thought the context was clear since KP recommended getting the 300 S.

But it looks like there is some correlation b/c Mercedes = Chrysler?

I had to scroll way down the page of the 300 on edmunds to see them discussion the types of models...

But now I see the difference. The base seems pretty solid but the "S" does add a bunch of pretty nice features. The "C" or "luxury" don't seem very useful at all given they cost more imo.

The Chrysler 300 right now seems to be a pretty good value: ~30.5k for the base with no additions and ~33k for the "S" with no additions.

OTOH, the Acura TL is like 36 or 37k on the dealer's website - and the true market value Edmunds gave was a bit higher: 38k. And it may be a nicer car .

I didn't realize all dealerships are closed on Sunday but hopefully tomorrow I will start test driving some cars. Hopefully the Subarus, Chrysler 300, Acura TL, and Infiniti G. There is a cluster of those dealers ~10 mins away from me.

You're asking about things that you don't want to know about! Read the Wiki, I don't even know who owns Mopar anymore, I think it's an investment group.

The C is basically the S with the lux package. You probably get a modest discount on it, and looking at the lux package, you need that ish. A "C" will also hold it's value slightly better than "loaded S"

The S comes with bigger wheels, which yes, are more expensive. It almost makes them heavier, gives a harsher ride, makes tires a ****load more expensive, and they're more susceptible to bend.

This is definitely the kind of stuff to actually talk to a dealer about as what's on the website, or edmunds etc. might not be exactly true or current. They also might be willing to make deals on a slow-seller whichever that may be.

American cars usually have a lower MSRP than the Japanese, though people will point out that Japanese cars have better reliability.

They're all good choices, find a good deal but buying what your heart speaks too, based off of your list of cars, is not going to be a bad idea at all.

To make the discussion less baller, are there any tshirts shirts similar to the 50/25/25 American Apparel by fit and feel?

What does WR mean in this context? I've assumed it was world record, and just a hnf I side joke where people actually mean PR, but now I'm second guessing myself.

You're quite correct sir. Since it's the holidays I'm not even gonna troll you.

I thought he meant it was his record at his current weight since he included it but what do I know. I don't even lift.

I can confirm through Guinness its a world record.

My upper back (which I hurt in the distant past) hurt some while doing Front Squats. Woke up the next day, and my lower back was killing me.

Took a day off, back felt mostly better. Did back Squats this time, which went fine (lower back was a little sore, but didn't interfere with my lifting). Woke up the next day and back was killing me again.

Took two days off. Back felt fine Rowing and doing Squats with just the bar. Added a little weight, fine. Added a little more weight (to about 50% of 1RM), several reps were fine then suddenly not fine. Sharp pain, barely kept from dropping the bar. Did not hurt at all Benching or doing Lat Pulldowns (both after Squat near-disaster, wanted to see extent of problem). Hurts walking, bending, even getting in and out of my car now.

So I've apparently strained my back. I guess I need to baby it for a while, but I have a few questions:

1) Can I still do exercises that don't work my back?

2) Should I be doing any sort of stretches or bodyweight exercises involving my back?

3) Do I need to wait until every last bit of discomfort is gone? Even longer?

Thanks
