Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

I just wanted to post a followup to the suggestions I've taken thus far. Day after foam rolling and getting an extra hour of sleep, I feel ****ing awesome. Much better mood/energy and practically no soreness.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

Jesus,
simple way:
salt + pepper + meat seasoning (Lawry's, et. al.)

hard way:

Put about a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil in a pan and turn the heat up to medium. Next, mince two cloves of garlic and toss them in the pan. I then seasoned the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, all-purpose meat seasoning, and dehydrated ground peppers. Once this is done, you should be able to smell the garlic cooking a little bit in the oil, which is a sign to toss the chicken into the pan seasoning side down. Make sure you season the other side. Now you just let it cook on medium heat for 5-10 minutes for each side. I usually do about 5m, then flip, 5m, flip. It can be a little bit difficult to judge if it is done so I usually just cut through the thickest part of the chicken to make sure its not pink in the middle. Over time you'll know when it's done and don't have to cut into it.

Also, the frozen chicken breasts usually don't have as much flavor as "fresh" chicken breasts.

Supposedly it helps immensely with tennis elbow type pains and general forearm strengthening.
shocking that making people do forearm strength exercises helps them with forearm pain.

i've never tried the apparatus. i imagine it's probably ok.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

Haven't posted here in forever.
Anyways stopped lifting for a while till the gf dumped me but been back doing SS 3 days a week for the past 4 months now.

Lifts have progressed nicely but a fewproblems
Worksets are currently
Bench->230
OHP -> 145
Squats -> 235
Deadlift -> 300 (always do double overhead)
Powerclean -> 175

Before I had stopped lifting for a while my worksets were squats ->250 and bench only 205 so idk, I do go extra low on squats now so maybe thats it.

My squats seem to be stalling, maybe form? (don't have a weightlifting belt right now which might be affecting it)

Also my main reason for posting, deadlifts. After a workset of deadlifts now my lower back is super tired/tight for 10-15 minutes and all I want to do is sit down and walking is a pain. Not normal is it? Possibly rounding my back? I get the same thing from squats too sometime though not as bad lately which I think is cause I'm squatting a little less than I should be/can.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

if i DL 2 workouts in a row will that destroy the sanctity of the program (SS)? b/c i really want to deadlift tonight.

fwiw i'm doing my squat sets at a lower weight than i could be b/c i have a knee caving issue so i'm not going to be as taxed from that as i otherwise might be. will be 48 hrs since last workout when i go.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

jeff,
no not normal. Very probably form issue on the DL with rounding. You're probably not keeping your lumbar in extension when squatting either. Fix both of these immediately.

wat,
it's fine if you feel up to it.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

nah i mean it fells easier to do pull ups with wider grip then shoulder witdh
and i dont rlly want them gunz
but i fell like im not doing maximum strength on exercices like bench and press because my smaller muscles arent allowing me to so i guess ill take them

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

i have a decent width arm already for my height i think, dont mind growing a bit bigger, just want to look good and proportional
also big arms (width) is a bit worse for bjj competition (not sure about this)

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

It's not like your arms will explode. The big arms worse for bjj sounds loltastic, unless we're talking monster arms. I don't have any clue about bjj whatsoever, but still.

ETA: obv pull-ups are fine.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

the bigger they are the less flexibility u'll prob have and the easier it will be to grab it and get an submission on it (just what i noticed on practice any guy with a huge arm seems to be rlly easy to arm lock and stuff, and what i read about guys like body builders having a rlly tought time doing bjj)
w/e i just dont like huge gunz, but its prob one of those things like womans saying they dont want to be with lots of muscles, im not gonna get like that unless i work for it and rlly want it

just those guys i see irl with arms that look like they will explode rlly freaks me out

btw was planning on doing a/b/c training on SS like pullups, chinups, and deadlifts (until i learn to do power cleans correctly then ill probs rotate between chins and pull ups); was just making an off coment about big gunz not that i wont do chinups

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

You're exactly like the girls who think their muscles will explode in size and get ultra bulky if they start lifting weights, wtf?

Anyway, we're obviously on a tangent here so let's bury this thing.
