Obviously. But soon?
A running forum has tons of people asking about calf knots so I am probably ok as long as they are still alive.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
I feel like you would notice a difference between a cramp and a dvt.

I would've agreed, but apparently "DVT (deep vein thrombosis) may feel like a routine cramp in the leg but without proper treatment it can be fatal."

it's decently common for athletes to develop anterior femoral glide. it presents as front hip pain, but is caused by a lack of glute activation to stabilize the femur in the capsule. so during the squat, the femur drifts forward and causes pain. stretching doesn't actually do anything for it.
squats train the muscles involved in flexion. they are fine. your glutes are the weak link.

It's been 9 days since my last squat (and training session), and my hip flexors are both still killing me. Do you still think it is a strain caused by lack of glute activation last time I squatted? I have tried to do some glute activation the past week, like the stuff you suggested, but the pain persists.
Dunno what to do really, besides trying to eat, sleep, and rest a lot...

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
How long have you been squatting? When I started squatting my hip flexors ached pretty much constantly for the first month or more, even with foam rolling/stretching etc. I can't be sure, but I think the pain going away coincided with my flexibility improving. In any case, it just took time before it went away.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
Hardgrove's been squatting a while. I don't think he has much forward drift if any from what I remember of his vids.
The only thing that helped for the hip flexor pain I had was rest unfortunately, which was definitely caused by forward drift. I just had bad form at the time though, I think Hardgrove's form is v good.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
i've almost never had sore hip flexors. Minor stuff when I first started box squatting, that's about it. be more like me. that should fix it.
but seriously, maybe squat more, even if with lighter weight? Taking huge breaks between training sessions isn't going to help. It'll eventually go away, and then next workout it'll be back.
Also, I recently tried using "the stick" and it's pretty frickin' sweet, though probably hard to hit the flexors with hard.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
Gym I have access to at the moment only has a Smith machine to squat/chest press. Also I won't be able to clean press. Take a break for 3 months until I join a better gym, or use lesser equipment?

your gym doesn't even have a bench and a barbell? I dont even think you can call that a gym...whatever you do, don't take a break for 3 months.

I had knee surgery in January, and have squatted since May or something like that, going from 3x5x50 to 3x5x126 without really struggling with a single set... I also think my form is relatively good (that's what people tell me), but I obv can't be sure. Will try to get a video up of my last recorded sets to see if there is forward drift. The "fun" thing is that I had hf pain around 3x5x100ish as i recall, but that disappeared, yet now it is back.

I would like to squat light, but I feel pain when shifting position in bed or something similar - I don't think I'll be that well off working out this sore.
A side note is that I had extreme pain after each of my sets last time I squatted. Stubbornness made me do all three sets in stead of calling it a day... So dunno if I caused something severe then.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
The pain is located in the tendons yeah? If so, rest, ice and lots of ibuprofen is probably the way forward to help you heal, no matter the cause.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
Over the past 2-3 years, I've had varying degree of shoulder soreness, mostly when sleeping at night on that shoulder. I don't do anything particularly bad for my shoulder. I used to golf a fair amount, no baseball pitching or anything too weird. It tends to go away during the day and not really bother me except at night when it can be very intense, not not in a specific place. My dad had to have shoulder surgery for rotator cuff or torn labrum for both his shoulders. My grandfather also had to have cortizone shots from a bad rotator cuff and recovered. There's a decent chance there is something genetic wrong.
Any theories on what is wrong with it or what I can do to try to figure it out and narrow it down before I got to a doctor and complain about general soreness?

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
i used to sleep on a tempurpedic mattress, which is fairly stiff and I'm a side sleeper. My shoulder would often be slightly numb upon waking.
When I moved cross country, I sold my tempurpedic and bought a plush mattress that's a little softer and I haven't had any problems. <3 <3 <3 my new bed.
Hardgrove,
reverse lunge mobility work and static reverse lunge stretch? otherwise i dunno man. sounds sucky.
