Don't worry about a number. Use whatever you can do with good form. For many people this is more than 85 pounds to start. In fact for most larger males its more like 135lbs+

Raeffnix,

do deadlift every time for the first 2-3 weeks. You'll be able to recover and make some extra progress there.

I was pretty weak and started out at more than 85 on squats. 135 doesn't strike me as unusual, especially if he is already pressing 80 and benching 135. In fact, it almost seems a little "low" based on his other lifts.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

sounds good, I have always liked deadlifts. After those weeks, start implementing pendlay rows? Are there any disadvantages in sticking to deadlifts for every workout?

What about chinups or pullups? Add them as well or only after an initial period has passed?

Thank you

EDIT: To Soulman, definitely was a bro before, had the gloves and everything. Still feel the burn sometimes

In my SS excursion, I actually found I was able to do chinups/pullups to start, then I was just way too tired to do anything but the 3 daily lifts.

I think some programs recommend doing DLs every day instead of DL/PCs. afaik, disadvantages include recovery once DLs get heavy and no direct power lift (if you're into that).

Do chinups instead of rows if you're not going to do power cleans.

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****

Did one workout so far on SS, my left thumb was hurting me. I looked over and my wrists weren't flat-my arms were curled under the bar and was putting pressure on it. I got a rigid painters stick and been trying to improve flexibility with that...but it strains my wrists pretty hard to get em in the right position. Any tips? Suck it up?

It eventually gets better. I had a similar problem.

Most of my warmups for the squat involve shoulder mobility, not hip mobility.
