Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
spenda, ty. i think i get a good price on isopure so i'll prob stick with it for the time being.
anyway, i absolutely forgot to mention the one supp that i was most curious about: creatine. most people like it and claim that it is worth it, and its not all that expensive either. the little reading ive done on it suggests that it'd be something i'd benefit from yet i'm still a little reluctant to give it a go.
in short, will creatine improve my training?

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
can someone here link me to an article or give me some advice on things to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner while trying to lose some weight but gain muscle. I went 2 years without doing any fitness/gym work but decided a couple of weeks ago I wanted to get back at it.
i'm 6'2 and currently weigh around 180ish. my goal is to get back to around 175ish with a lowered amount of bf% but an increase in muscle. (this is exactly where I was 2 years ago)
also i'm currently doing 20mins of cardio (2 min fast walk/13min quick jog/2min sprint/2-3min slow walk) before I start lifting weights. I do try and give myself 4-5min rest before lifting, how retarded is this? I generally spend just over an hour in the gym including both cardio/weight lifting if that makes any difference.
I've also done a 20-25min walk on a high gradient a couple of times after lifting to burn some more calories, does this effect muscle growth in anyway? (I assume this mainly depends on what i'm eating?)
sorry in advance if these are really dumb/easily answered questions

Lose fat and gain muscle at the same time? Wrong board bro, that's not our specialty. The specialty of the board is to gain strength. You want be strong and lose some fat?
SS + deficit
Easy game. We move on.
You want to gain muscle and lose fat?
Impossible over here. Try the breakfast of champions. Just google "Arnold + breakfast of champions"

Do research on Martin's leangains site. Check out Alan Aragon's site. Check out Lyle McDonald's site. See if you find anything good.
Your goal is not impossible. Definitely doable. I would start by eliminating the cardio on training days. Do brisk walking on your days off. Cardio on your training days is going to interfere too much with muscle hypertrophy IMO. And make sure to get plenties of the broteins.

Of course creatine will improve your training. Its backed by university studies. I've taken it myself over 10 years ago and noticed noticeable weight increase (muscle and water) and strength increase.
Having said that, seems like you too heavy on the supps right now. That stuff gets pricey and some of them are total crap. You can get plenty of goodies from good old fashioned food. Meats, veggies, and fruits. Yum yum. About to stuff a sweet potato with boiled garlic spinach and a can of tuna. Yum. My muscles growing just thinking about it.
But if you really going to the supplement route anyways, you should google the specific supplement and see if there any studies. Definitely don't ever take anything that's only been tested on rats. I would definitely dump the glutamine. The studies I have seen have been inconclusive. Fish oil good. Creatine good also but realize the gains may just disappear after discontinuing.

Yeah, I usually do research first on some of the other BB sites - that's how I even know about CLA, L-glutamine, creaitne and even fish oil. I like to run things by some people in here as well for confirmation though. 2+2 peoples are smaht.
anyway, im dropping the CLA and glutamine. tbh, tho, they're really not expensive - i wanted to just try them out. whey is kind of expensive but i dont think that is something i can sacrifice atm. PWO whey protein shake is optimal. going forward, i'll only be using the fish oil, multi, isopure, psyllium (until i can start pounding more brocc and spinach), and creatine.
when i first start on the creatine should i do a "loading" phase the first week or is that just BS companies say to get us to take more

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
how important are pre-bed meals? i dont feel like spending more money on casein pro so what i've been doing is eating 2 cans of tuna with a tbsp of olive oil to slow the digestion. anything else i should consider?
also, this is almost definitely broscience but ive read in a few different places that drinking ice cold water actually "burns calories." the idea is that your body has to work to heat your body back up and in the process burns cals. i havent looked more into it because it just sounds retarded.
on the topic of water tho, how much are we drinking per day? im forcing down 1 gallon of room temp water occasionally mixing it with some green tea or crystal light. i hate water when im forced to drink it tho, it sucks and it is hard to drink a gallon a day

Re: ****Official Beginner Question Thread****
If you're thirsty, drink some water. If you're not thirsty don't drink water. There's no reason to force yourself to drink unless you're preparing for a water drinking contest or something.
Also take a look at this thread Big Rocks, Littlel Rocks, you're getting hung up on little things that don't really matter.

Scientifically it makes sense.....and, its true.

So in the case of a 16-ounce glass of ice water, your body must raise the temperature of 473.18 grams of water from zero to 37 degrees C. In doing so, your body burns 17,508 calories. But that's calories with a little "c." Your body only burns 17.5 Calories, and in the grand scheme of a 2,000-Calorie diet, that 17.5 isn't very significant.
