Sure, cardio is limited by genetics but very few people who don't do cardio regularly are anywhere near their capacity. Kind of like very few people who don't lift are as strong as their genetics would allow. And similarly, there are a lot of easy noob gains you can get in the first 6mo. If you don't want to pursue diminishing returns you can just hang out there by doing cardio regularly but not increasing the intensity or duration.

Gear'd Up powerlifting edition (has nothing to do with equipped lifting) is really good.

Also Chad Wesley Smith podcast got an upgrade, actual studio production+videoed now. Every single one that I've listened to has been gold. Max and Chad are actual elite strength athletes and a pretty ****ing funny too.

Shocker.

Obviously not. Your view on beginner training is clouded by your own inept and stupid training history.

It has the same answer: You do X

Now, are there different approaches to it? Sure. "Cardio" can apply to instantaneous ability, like a 200 or 400m sprint or a 3 mile run. The body will adapt to whatever you ask it to adapt to - but you have to ask it to adapt for it to adapt. We don't live in the Matrix where you can download Kung Fu.

C2 rowing machines are probably the best alternative to "cardio" when "cardio" is interpreted as "running" - plus it involves a more full body approach since the movement mimics the deadlift mechanics to a degree. If you go for a C2 sprint and aren't feeling it in your legs and lats and dying afterwords, you did it wrong.

^ At least, that's my plan as I've realized my conditioning holds me back in later sets.

But your breathing rate / "depth of breath" could be a result of something else. If your rib cage is restricted - serratus muscles not allowing expansion for example - that could hold back capacity as well.
Case in point on derping.

Though where mwod differs from the approach of any other PT / other mobility systems such as gymnastics mobility / mobility for weightlifters (real athletes not PL goofballs) / etc. would be interesting to me.
Agreed. Someone who says 1000 things is never wrong and never right. Gotta figure it out.

Yep.

You guys seen the Perkins v Staple brothers prop bet?

Cliffs:

- Brothers currently weigh 305lb and 135lb
- Bet is that they will weigh within 1lb of each other 12 months from now
- It's their 3K to Perkins' 150K, so 50-1

Seems theoretically doable but pretty unlikely they will achieve it. The bet also sucks for the thin one because the only way they can win is for him to become a fat.

Lol at giving out 50:1, skinny dude gains 70 fat dude loses 100 ez game.

Yeah doesn't seem out of reach at all. However I can totally see this going completely wrong with an obese dude who "can't lose weight" and a skinny fella who thinks he doesn't gain weight "no matter what he eats".
***Official April LC thread*** Quote
04-06-2017 , 03:20 AM
Yeah, presuming they are both normal height, that seems fairly easy.

I guess the actual weigh-in might be tricky if it's on a specific day at a specific time or something.

Skinny guy doesn't have to get super fat. He can go up to the low 200s or something and just be a bit fat with some ok muscle gain.

It's literally what every H&F member did about 6 years ago.

It is literally super easy to get within 1lbs. You literally take turns getting on the scale and either drinking water or not day of. Goto a sauna and you probably only need to be within 10-20lbs if you both aren't morons.
***Official April LC thread*** Quote
04-06-2017 , 03:35 AM
Well, yeah. I said it might be a bit tricky depending on the exact parameters, not that it's impossibriu.

Not sure losing 100lb in 12 months is "ez game", it's a pretty rapid loss, that will be fine at first but when he gets south of 250 it's a little tougher.

Agreed that it can be done, but on the question of whether an MTT-grinding fat is actually going to get it done when he only has 1.5K on the line I'm gonna go with "nope".
