weight loss:
i've been dieting and lifting since december and up until about 2 weeks ago i lost ~25 lbs from a starting weight of 200 lbs. then i took a couple cheat days which turned into the last 2 weeks of me eating whatever and not exercising at all.

now i'm back to 184 lbs. i gained 9 lbs in 2 weeks.

i refuse to let all the hard work and hours go to waste. i am creating this blog to hopefully get some followers to help hold myself accountable.

i'm getting married in january, and have a goal weight of 159lbs.

macros: 1500 calories, 150 protein, 55 fat.

poker:
back story, i am probably a break even to slight winner at 100nl on stars. playing on softer sites matters a lot. i've made 6 figures the last couple months including a 50k february.

i want to make 100k by september. i am staked. i am ~13k in makeup. average buy in for me is 3/6.

follow or not, thanks for the time. i know very few of you irl. but i've been apart of this forum for more than a decade so hopefully this will work and i'll keep updating even through the downswings in poker, and the upswings in weight.

3 days in a row of eating correctly. meal prepped for the first time. lost a bunch real fast. only worked out once. legs. did cardio 2x.

got put into some private games with $1k+ buy ins. and ran well. almost out of makeup.

If this is going to be mostly weight loss, you might ask to have it moved to the Health and Fitness forum, where there are a number of similar logs and you'll likely get more responses.

thanks and yes this is mostly about weight loss as that is where i would want some advice, i will ask to have it moved.

ate out everyday since last update and ordered food that taste good so i gained a lot of weight.

i will also start taking creatine today. so my weight might increase for now, but hopefully it works out since i still have awhile to reach my modest goal.

poker was meh. low volume and i lost about 3k still playing the 1k+. i'm considering dropping down to grind out of makeup at least.

i started with the creatine been taking it last 2 days. i am "loading". i'm not sure if it's even necessary to load. getting 25-30mg/day for 5 days then i'll drop to 5 mg/day.

hit the gym 2 days in a row, and hit my macros 2 days in a row as well. i can hit my protein goals(150) and stay under my fat limit (55) and (25) fiber as well. i'm pretty sleepy throughout the day. i don't track carbs but i'm usually at around 75-100. is there a reason for me to increase this? i mean i play poker for a living, taking a nap mid/day doesn't really get in the way of work.

also out of makeup. i also want to note that me making 100k is only gonna net me 50-60k since i'm staked.

i've been eating these quest cereal protein waffle bars. like 3-4 of them a day. they taste so good. to the point where it taste like junk food. as long as they fit my macros, will they be healthy? i don't want to destroy my intestines or something eating so many of these everyday.

110 calories, 5 fat, 170 sodium, 50 potassium, 17 carbs, 6 fiber, 8 sugar, 12 protein

i really only pay attention to the 110 calories, 5 fat, 6 fiber, and 12 protein. so it looks great! but what about the rest? is it fine to get that much sugar in a day? i'm eating 3 or 4 everyday.

had an 11k day in poker. 1500 min buy in table, get QQ double up vs AK. then call it off with AA vs JK on 46736 for full double. then i flop a set after cold calling a 3bet with 1010 vs AK flop K106. tilted because i didn't stack the guy.

thanks for the advice on the bars- i just bought another box of the bars.

today is my last day (5th) of "loading" creatine. i've actually lost weight while taking, so far. is that supposed to happen?

You don't really need to load creatine, btw.

Setting macros is pretty easy; adequate protein (minimally 0.6ish g/lb of bodyweight, although I'd say closer to the 1 to 1.25 g/lb of bodyweight is better for me while cutting, mainly for satiety/compliance reasons, although there is some evidence you want to keep protein a bit higher during a cut to minimize catabolism), then portion the rest out in a way that isn't wildly ******ed and fits how you prefer to eat (like maybe 1ish g/lb carbs, 0.3 g/lb fat and then fill in the remaining calories with what floats your boat).

Jordan Feigenbaum, from BarbellMedicine.com and Starting Strength fame, is a pretty good resource on this topic and has had an increased guest spot presence on various fitness YouTube channels lately (just recently on Alan Thrall's). Worth checking out if you're interested in a bit more neckbearding (or, as he would say, nuance) on the subject.

i bought 2 more boxes just so i have it whenever. it really helps satisfy any junk cravings i get.

about macros, what montecore said is about right. everybody's body is different though. but that's what you should start with. and then adjust it after a couple weeks depending on how your body reacts.

here's a tip from me that i've learned so far. you have to eat chicken breast, fish, turkey, egg whites. when i first started i would eat like subway and panda express and that would be fine. i would lose weight because i was at my calorie goal still. but for most of the day i would be hungry. if you eat cleaner, you can almost eat as much as you want because they have lower calories.

here's a progress pic of how i'm doing so far. though losing weight at the beginning is supposed to be easy, so i only have the tougher road ahead.

i overate yesterday, not by much though. will try to not do that again.

tough challenge for me this weekend. going to a cabin with a few friends. with a bunch of bad(not talking about the taste) asian food being cooked and liquor etc. i already skipped out last week on a friend event because it was at a buffet.

i gained some weight, could be the creatine finally kicking in though, because i look better in the mirror than i have in the past.

poker was swingy. lost 9k yesterday, then won it back.

Nice progress. Even with the recent weight gain you're looking much better.

Not sure you've mentioned it but do you do any lifting at all?

sorry late reply here. yes i lift at least 3x a week. i only do cardio on average 1x/week.

been a bit frustrated with progress to update. failed hard at the cabin i went to last weekend, drinking and eating all snacks nonstop and just not giving a f**k. not sure if it's the creatine, but my weight increased to 184.5 sunday. also i haven't been drinking enough water and i also didn't take the creatine for 2 days at the cabin. super fail. but i'm gonna get back on track now. i have dropped some weight since yesterday. this morning i was 180.4. has to be creatine that's making my weight so swingy.

had my personal best bench in my life on monday. 155 x 9 reps without a spot. i'm happy with that.

i have 5 workouts. push/pull/push/pull/legs. and i just rotate these whenever i go to the gym. i also try to do 3-4 sets of abs everytime as well. though sometimes i just don't because i'm tired at the end. also sometimes i skip legs because legs lol. i can post my entire workout if anybody is interested in that. i just copied it from christian guzman.

poker has been very good. lost today, but still winning a lot at 6/12. losing at lower stakes 2/4 and 3/6.

i lost yesterday 3.2k sportsbetting and some blackjack. since it's gambling i will include it in the results at -6.4k (i have to make double 3.2k on the stake to recoup. i'm due to win 4.5btc if warriors win it all. so i'll add that in as well if they win. also whatever i lose/win at wsop as well since i plan on playing a few events. basically anything gambling related will be counted.

-9k poker day. taking a day off to reset mind.

doing way better with the diet. stayed at or under calorie goals since last update. and i've worked out every other day since as well. still getting good creatine effects. i used to just do around 15-20 total sets at the gym. currently i'm doing 25-30 sets. so hopefully when this water weight goes away, i'll hit some personal lows for weigh ins!
