This is the classic skinnyfat physique. I think all your bodyparts look awful. I use to have a similar physique.

Cut 10-15 lbs while you lolhorseback riding (that's part of the problem right there). Try to sneak in some push-ups and pull-ups.

Then when you are done with lolhorseback riding you can get back to do some real lifting and have some room to eat at a surplus. You are currently 25% bodyfat, exact rustybrooks physique.

I was over 170 at the time, maybe 175, but, yeah. I did get down to 165 for a while, not any more though.

I should have taken pictures at 165. My upper body was nothing to write home about but my lower body looked great. More than one person pulled me aside to ask if I'd gotten sick.

That is rather impressive.

re: Barbell Medicine podcast- they like to troll each other a bit , but they are also trolling my choice of 5/3/1 as a choice for progression. I guess I'm not doing 5/3/1 as written in teh book though and I'm a special snowflake, so meh it works for me.

It might work for you, but doesn't mean something different wouldn't work better

Can someone summarize the "way its written", along with the complaints?

Like the people who hate on SS usually are ranting about their own deluded idea of what to do, and pretending its etched in stone without any reasonable changes being possible.

I enjoy it as a progression scheme tbh. And I think my variant fixes some of the complaints since I'm getting in more squatting and lifting 5 days per week.

Lifts 4 days per week-
Day 1: OHP + accessories
Day 2: DL + accessories
Day 3: Bench + accessories
Day 4: Squat + accessories

Find 1RM, then use 90% of that for all these calculations.

Week 1: 5x65%, 5x75%, 5+x85%
Week 2: 3x70%, 3x80%, 3+x90%
Week 3: 5x65%, 3x75%, 1+x95%
Week 4: Deload

Move up maxes 5# on OHP & Lady's Press and 10# on DL & Squat each iteration.

The general question they were answering was a common one: "Should I do Texas Method or 5/3/1 after SS linear progression?" Their answers were "TM sucks because too much volume", "5/3/1 sucks because too little volume." and apparently Wendler never even did 5/3/1. There was also a complaint that 5/3/1 bases all lifts off of 90% of your max, because reasons. IIRC, the book basically says that they start at 90% so you can keep making rep progress over time. I read that like 6 years ago, so I'd have to check it out.
