What benefit are you expecting from the sauna?

Responding to Soulman's posts with regards to intermittent fasting

I'd be especially interested in the cognition ones since I (and others in H&F) semi-frequenty fast for 15-16 hours.
It's not really in dispute that the brain needs glucose for optimal performance in MYL's train wreck.

I do think there is something to intermittent fasting as a method to restrict calories (it's potentially less taxing mentally to not count calories all the time) AND as a method to train self-control, which undoubtedly has positive effects on cognitive functions long term, some of which may even manifest physically. But from a pure nutrition/chemistry perspective, I find it likely we are slightly less intelligent when "hangry" (to paraphrase Snickers commercial.)

LOL Any benefit to justify adding 20 minutes of sauna time to my workout routine. I read that your heat rate increases so that you burn a couple hundy calories, releasing toxins, whatever the **** that means.

That's what a few articles online said but sounded very sketchy/unscientific to me so I was skeptical and came here to see what you guys think.

Josie,

Man I wish you could burn a couple hundred extra calories by sitting in a sauna for 20 minutes! I'd eat sooo much chocolate all day long.

I usually drink beer or vodka shots in between sauna sessions. Works for me.
05-04-2017 , 02:50 PM
Damn, **** the calories, I wanna have a booze and chocolate sauna party!

You should immediately discount to zero anything that mentions "releasing toxins".

The main benefit I get from a sauna is I find it relaxing.

It's good for exfoliating the skin too...

Some people use it to find out if the other person's boobs are real

Interesting article, thank you!

Like Dids, I find it relaxing, hitting the sauna after a work out. I'm just not sure if it's the endorphins from lifting heaving shiat or the sauna that's making me feel good.

There was a crazy lady in the sauna the other night. Fully clothed, texting (which is fine) but moaning and talking to herself while doing so. Of course I grabbed my phone and videoed a bit. It was bizarre. "I'm not smart but I'm street smart!". Really. If I can figure out how to post a video to 2+2, I will.

What about soaking in the hot tub while drinking for an hour and then rinsing off in a cool shower?

There's gotta be some scientist somewhere that says that's a good thing post long cardio sessions right?

Asking for a friend of course.
