Probably somekind of cheating

I thought this was pretty cool: http://www.strstd.com/

Interactive strength standards tables+5/3/1 calculator+logbook. The 1rm calc is clearly quite generous though.

That 1rm calc is straight from the book. Weight x reps x .033 + weight. I find it fairly accurate.

70s big has a post up about the gnc pro deadlift challenge. I agree with him that watching gillingham pull is awesome. It's a bummer no one there really challenged him. He could pull more.

There was another dude there who pulled 800 or so basically stiff legged.

Re: backwards belt. Some do it because the buckle gets in their way or is uncomfortable.

I think it's doing something different, a little higher.

For example, I plugged in 5x275 for bench press and it gives me 327.

But 5*275/30 + 275 = 321

why is 327 on the left side?

Sumo haters gonna hate I guess. I think it really lacks logic. Are we gonna stop counting bench presses were the person got a good arch since that cheating? what about a normal arch? Is that ok or are we only gonna count crappy arches?

What about close(r) grip bench? Is that cheating since most PLers uses maximum allowed width?

count me in the "sumo looks ******ed" camp

Are there any rules regarding the distance the bar has to travel for a sumo DL to count? If not, wouldn't the "sport" simply reward the strong people who can also basically do the splits?

kinda like doing contortionist training to make the bench press a 4-6" ROM lift.

There is only like 5' or whatever between plates...

For the record, when it comes to sport (as opposed to lifting weights for health or sport), people are allowed to get whatever advantage they like as long as it falls within the rules (or judge/referee interpretation) imo. That's why they have rules. If sh*t gets too ******ed, that's when they change the rules obv.

+1 for liking sumo more than conventional.

Ive used it on my iPhone and ipod. Its a cool device, but do some reading on their forums to see if there are any software issues. When I got it, apple was on OS3, when they went to 4, everything ****ing broke on nike+ and it took them forever to fix it.

Other than software issues, its been pretty awesome, though I dont run enough to make it worth it.

In case you haven't seen it yet.

It's because it is designed to maximise the weight on the bar by taking advantage of ROM, leverage etc. There is nothing inherently wrong with it, but to me, just like raw powerlifts, conventional DL will always be significantly more awesome.

I do sumo because it feels better for my back.

The best analogy I have ever heard would be:

Think of one of those tiny electric cars vs a normal/sport car. Yes it is still a car. Yes it is more efficient. Yes it still gets your from point A to point B. I'm not denying any of that.

But I am still allowed to think it looks ******ed in comparison.
