Wow very nice!

I drove an Automatic car for the first time the other day, a friend just got one, the first I have ever seen here. I insisted on a test drive. It's like driving a ****ing go-kart. LOL USA #1!

(It's so weird btw, hand keeps reaching for gear lever, foot keeps trying to hit non existent clutch.)

I'm an American.

Pretty much everybody drives an automatic and learns on one. I love standard but it's so weird how few people know how to actually drive one.

We have indoor plumbing, too. It doesn't let you get the feel of the land or a connection to nature like walking out to the ****ter, but it's pretty nice anyway.

Too funny

My first car was a manual and I liked it a lot. My new car has paddle shifters or tiptronic or whatever you want to call it, which I'm pretty sure is the nuts.

Auto w/ paddle shifters > Manual > Full auto in my limited experience.

Paddle shifters on a street car? You ballin?
03-02-2012 , 12:51 PM
I learned on a stick, they are certainly more fun, and confirmed automatics feel like go-carts from there on out
03-02-2012 , 01:01 PM
6 speed ftw. Except in traffic
03-02-2012 , 01:08 PM
Tiptronic is pretty standard for newer automatics afaik

Grew up driving tractors, graduated to a 6-speed now. Of the 3 cars I've owned, 2 have been standards.

Anyway, yesterday I had a SS workout. Did squats, presses, and power cleans. Felt good, did lots of weight (for me). Got home, did some foam rolling and wanted to die afterwards so I thought "ahhh good. Finally done. Now I can sit down, watch this hockey game, and go to sleep."

The phone rings and it's my friend. His hockey team's goalie is sick, and they need me to play. Game starts in an hour. So I agreed and hustled to the rink. My legs were so sore on the ice, and it doesn't help that my playing style consists of a lot of low crouching and side to side slides. Needles to say that any cross-crease saves I would normally have made were turning in to goals pretty quickly.

I was unimpressed with myself.

I am certainly not ballin' by the way. I have a new Acura MDX Advance. It's nice, but it's definitely dad nice. As an old dad this is perfect!

Sucks it's still pretty expensive. At least it's an option though, ten years ago if you wanted a luxury car you were getting a slushbox and that was it.

It depends. For performance, probably.

But IMO, you drive a manual transmission because you enjoy the feel of it. And that, my friend, cannot be beat.

There's a big difference between the paddle shifters found on a Lexus IS and the paddle shifters found on an IS-F.

Go test drive a Cayman with the PDK option and I think you'll fall in love. Plenty of feel and interaction.

Yeah, I mean, I know basically nothing about cars and I drive around a big city so I'm sure my "car guy" cred is appropriately nil.

I should also add to my March goals to be more active here... lots of good resources in the H&F forum and since i stopped playing poker more than 2 years ago, I really just come here for this. But I think I probably take more than I give at this point
