Pretty much everything that needs to be said about carb backloading has been said already. I looked into it a few months ago or so when arguing with some 300+ lb powerlifting dude about nutrition. He pointed me toward John Kiefer. I subsequently had a broscience-induced vomiting spree.

The guy at LiftRunBang had a two week run at IF, but gave up and changed to carb back loading recently. Some of his planning is there, and might be worth following along to see what progress he makes.

Re: *** The Lockout Has Ended - You MAY Post Again LC Thread***
I'm basically surviving on a 5 on 1 off cycle where I'm essentially RFLing besides some pre workout carbs on the 5 and then loading 500g carbs night of 5th day and having a "cheat" meal post workout day 6.

Video > the pics - at first, I found it a bit boring but then found a calm wash over me but then started thinking about how much she was flexing her lower back.
I did visit the website though, I had no idea there were so many of them (and hadn't heard of equinox to begin with). Is that where you're working out Giz?

Or is this completely wrong?
PS, or 3x5? That sounds like it'd take forever tho.

I have the book (sent to me, not bought). It may be BS, but Kiefer cites and references very rigorously, so it's not like he's pulling **** out of his ass like true broscientists (gotta eat frequent meals to keep the metabolism revvin bro). Don't think it's fair to just dismiss his work offhandedly. He's a scientist by trade, endorses research-backed approach to fitness and health, and rejects a lot of typical broscience (meal frequency, carbs only in a.m., mega-dosing protein, etc).

Re: *** The Lockout Has Ended - You MAY Post Again LC Thread***
Ok, broscience may not be the most accurate adjective/insult here, and maybe the guy doesn't deserve any bashing at all, I really don't know. I'm just providing my initial insights from skimming articles. But with that said, someone referencing a lot of research papers doesn't mean anything. Case and point: Gary Taubes.
Here's a section from one of his articles describing carb backloading:
Quote:
Carbs are a two-faced bastard. Want to be muscular and strong? You need carbs. Want to stay tight and lean? Skip the carbs. The insulin released when you eat carbs makes fat cells efficient at storing fat and conserving energy, i.e. insulin changes the amount of energy your body derives from food. This spits in the face of “a calorie is a calorie,” but from the point of view of statistical physics, “a calorie is a calorie” makes no physical sense whatsoever. If I told you it was impossible for your car to get better mileage on the interstate than in the city, you’d call me an idiot. The same is true of the body: With carbs the body gets more energy out of food — the body gets better mileage.
Complicating things, the interplay between carbs and insulin affect a host of hormones, enzymes and transcription factors in positive and negative ways. Depending on your past diet, it can significantly alter strength. Most of us need steady insulin levels to operate at peak performance. Levels can be high or low, but the body needs consistency. For the strength athlete, every meal or every missed meal can be the difference between a PR training session and getting stapled to the bench.

This quote alone is enough to tell you that the writer is a giant idiot. Your car gets better gas milage on the interstate because it's not constantly starting and stopping, it has nothing to do with the type of fuel it is burning since it burns the same fuel at all times.

If anything that suggests the five small meals a day is optimal.
