Re: KRSONE's Ed "Smolov" Coan Yoga Fun time

WA State Powerlifting Comp Write up.

Went ok at the meet today.

Somehow lost half a kilo while I was in Byron so I weighed in at exactly 89.0kgs.

Wasn't sure how I was feeling warming up for the squat. Ended up going 180kg/190kg and then missed 202.5kg. Last time I wasn't even close, this was much better. Not sure how much the past week took out of me but I don't think it helped.

Bench, 100kg 107.5kg (2.5kg comp PR) missed 112.5 by a little bit. Pretty happy to see my bench finally moving, slowly as it is. Gonna be raining PR's there for a while with any luck though.

Deadlift, felt TERRIBLE warming up, seriously considered just doing a token lift & bailing but decided to just go slow and see what happened. Changed my planned open of 225 at the last minute & opened 210, easy, 225, pretty ok so I went for a small PR @ 237.5 and totally destroyed it. My friend told me Id be taking 245 if I had another attempt, so it was a bit disappointing that I didn't stick to my original plan and just open with 225 & go from there, but at least this way its going to look even more impressive when I hit 250 at the next comp.

Cliffs: BW 89kg Squat 190kg Bench 107.5kg (2.5kg Comp PR) Deadlift 237.5kg (2.5kg PR) Total 535kg (10kg PR)

First session back after the comp & I'm still pretty sure. Was meant to do 1 more set on box squats but called it & actually left the last two exercises exercises because I was ruined. Aside from that really unhappy with my squat form ATM. Going to start filming some sets & see where I'm at.*

Going to be careful this first week or two back to make sure I don't blow myself out before i even start.*

you lift primarily raw, correct?

I'd consider doing a lot less box squatting. Perhaps drop it entirely.

Re: KRSONE's Ed "Smolov" Coan Yoga Fun time

There was a discussion in the CnBYE7 podcast about raw squatters doing box squats. Paul Carter is very anti box squats, preferring paused squats and giving his reasoning. Might be worth checking out.

Re: KRSONE's Ed "Smolov" Coan Yoga Fun time

yeah, I heard it there as well, but it's been my belief since seeing everyone in my gym box squatting and everyone in my gym sucking at squatting.

I know Chad Smith has also been pretty vocal about raw squatting if you compete raw. Crazy idea I know.

PCs reasoning makes intuitive sense to me, but I am no expert nor do I have experience like you do. I like his stuff though - i'll probably pick up his soon to be released ebook.

Re: KRSONE's Ed "Smolov" Coan Yoga Fun time

i've done a fair amount of box squats. They do fry your hammies and glutes, and they hit my glutes in a way DLs don't. But yeah, my quads are never sore after.

For me, it's less about not loading the quads (I don't think that's completely true, but it is to an extent), and more about it just being a completely different lift that in no way mirrors a competition raw squat.

In fact, I've seen a lot of dudes try to raw squat as if they were box squatting, and it's a disaster.
