Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
I'm running a 5K on Saturday. My goal is sub 25 minutes, but I think that might be quite hard as the course is pretty hilly. We will see. I haven't been running much, but I've lost about 7 pounds since I ran my 5 mile race on 3/17. I ran that at about 8:50 pace, so I'm thinking I can run faster than that for a 5K now. Hills or not.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
I didn't run in the 5K yesterday because I had to go and cover a baseball game for work. But the game ended up being cancelled due to weather so I missed both.
I still managed to lose 2 lbs this week, which brought me down below my 5% body weight goal. I have another 9.5 pounds to go before I can start being excited, though. When I reach 184.5 lbs, I will have lost 10% of my body weight since joining WW. I am thinking I can do this over the next two months.
Oh yeah, I am currently at 194.0 lbs. This might seem like a good job, but I was down under 192 at one point this week before I pigged out for two days straight. I reached 191.6 at my lowest this week, so I know I'm capable of losing a lot more over the coming weeks.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Haven't updated this in a while. I stopped doing Weight Watchers because of moving to a new location and living in between two places. It was too hard to eat healthily, which I know is a lame excuse. But I haven't gained weight back. I weighed in at 194.8 yesterday, so I'm at a plateau now. I am incorporating biking into my exercise now and I am having fun when I do get out, which is good. But I am only getting out to exercise 3 times a week right now. I want to boost that number up to 6 in the near future, but not too quickly.
I decided to run the 2013 Rochester Marathon. That gives me over a year to train. I think I can go under 3 1/2 hours if I take it seriously. In college, I probably would have been around 2:35 or so, but that was a long time ago.
19 pounds to go before I'm at my yearly weight loss goal.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Went on a run of just under 2.5 miles (23 minutes). It was in the 90s when I was out and I lost 4 pounds during the run, I'm assuming it was all sweat/water weight. I tried to gain as much back drinking water as possible, so I ended the day at 192.0 lbs.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Went for a 25 minute trail ride on my mountain bike yesterday. I usually use the road bike, but I wanted to hit the trail near my house.
The heat has finally broken hear. It's only in the high 70s today. So I am thinking my run this evening will be much faster/less sweaty than it was on Wednesday.
I modified some of my goals. Nothing for this year, but I did decide that I want to do a marathon next summer. The Rochester Marathon is in September 2013, and I think I want to do a triathlon sometime next year too. Maybe not an Ironman, but I think a half Ironman would be doable.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Rode 26 minutes on the trail yesterday at dusk. It was a good hard ride, I did my usual loop backward so some of the hills were a bit steeper. I weighed in at 192.8 this morning.
Does anyone know anything about cyclocross? I was reading about it the other day and saw that there were some races near me in October. I really know nothing about it though. Although I do think it would be fun to do.
I realize that my focus is too scattered right now and I have too many goals going on. I really need to think this through and get some solid fitness goals. Right now, I am just doing whatever I feel like, exercise-wise and I'm hoping that this will lead to weight loss. That's my number one goal, but I would like to eventually be competitive again at SOMETHING. Ideally that would be running, but biking is just so much more fun right now. I wish I had a group or something to train with so I could stay more focused over the long term. Getting in shape is great and all, but I need to have an end in mind in order to keep that overall intensity in line.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
I ran 2.2 miles with my two year old in 22:00 today. Not exactly a blistering fast pace, but I was just trying to get out the door so I will take it. I felt really good and didn't struggle at all, but at the same time, I didn't push the pace either. I just was cruising at apparently 10 minute pace. I would have like this to have been a bit faster, but again, I am not going to complain.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Ran the same 2.2 mile loop today but by myself. 18:18. I was pretty pleased with my time but I think I ran too hard at some points. I ended with my chest feeling tighter than normal. Not painful at all, just with my breathing a bit labored at times. My legs didn't hurt at all, I think this is a product of losing so much weight, but my aerobic capacity is not very good. I am trying to remedy this, but it will be a long road still, I think.
My weight is currently at 189.4--this is the lowest it has been since my son Ethan was born back in January 2010. I am so happy about this, I am only 14.4 pounds off of my yearly weight loss goal of 175. I weighed 225 back in November and I think I can lose the last 15 pounds in the next three months, which will put me at over 50 pounds lost in less than a year. Not sure if this is healthy or not, and I'm not really concerned with this since I know I feel way healthier. If I continue to increase the intensity of my workouts, this weight will stay away no problem.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Here's what I was able to do. Never ran in high school or college. Started running at 37 1/2 years old. 5'6", 165 lbs. Was able to reach about 40 miles per week after 5 months. Never ran any HIIT sessions. Ran my first race after 5 months of training. 8 mile race. 54:25. Hit 6 miles at around 39:30 then got dehydrated. Last 2 miles were very slow. Don't drink the night before a race.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Thanks for the input, neg. I am taking things slowly with my running since I am still about 50 pounds heavier than I was in college. Hopefully I can knock this number down a bit more, but I know I will never get down to 140 again. I've just put on too much muscle that I am not willing to let go away to ever be that skinny again. I think that through weight loss, a lot of my time goals will come to me (such as the sub 6 minute mile by end of year), but I am not overly concerned at this point with how fast I run, just that I keep improving and keep building endurance. That's my weakness right now. I have been carrying around babies for a couple years now and I am probably core-strength-wise stronger now than ever before, but I am seriously lacking in the lung capacity area. This is to be expected, I am not running 1 hour plus everyday like I used to in college, but I am getting in about 1.5 hours per week of cardio now between jump rope, running, and biking. I need to increase this number if I ever want to run a marathon, but I have time and weight loss, again, is number one priority.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
I did 2.2 miles again yesterday, with my 2 year old. I was a bit slower yesterday at 23:20, but I felt amazing. I kept slowing myself down over the first 3/4 of the run because I had a bit more foot speed than normally. I was of course a bit disappointed in my time, but it was really hot last night when I ran and the heat always slows me down.
I am excited about the Tour de France. It always gets me excited to get on the bike. I haven't ridden since Sunday, but I will probably go for a ride tonight in lieu of my run. I have run 3 days in a row now and I don't want to push it too much. While I'm happy about my running right now, I am still very wary of getting injured by doing too much too soon. A ride should be a good respite from running. I'm not sure how much exercise I will get in next week because my step-son will be here, but I am going to try and get as much in as possible.
I find that right now I am really motivated but don't have a lot of opportunities to exercise. I always have to squeeze my workouts in to a really tight slot and I wish this could change. I foresee this being a major problem as I get in better shape and want to extend the length of my workouts. Any advice here?

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
I ran the 2.2 mile loop tonight with Ethan, again. I made sure that I was pushing parts of the run today, mainly, because a couple was running behind me and I didn't want to get passed. 21:21 was my total time. I was obviously really happy with the improvement. I think it was pretty much a mental thing, honestly, getting under 10 minute pace. It's so easy when it's hot and I have the kid to just slip into a super comfortable pace. I didn't let myself do that the entire run like I had been doing.
Haven't weighed myself in a few days. I will check in tomorrow with this.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
After my afternoon run I weighed in at 187.6. I realize that most of my lost weight this week was water weight, but I'm still pretty pleased with it. I am trying to gain the water back, and will probably gain a couple pounds today as a result, but that's the healthiest thing to do.
I ran 4.3 miles today with my youngest son, Cameron. Our time was 45:48, pretty slow, but oh well.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
Running a 5K tomorrow morning. Will keep people posted on results, goal is sub 28 min. I ran this 5K last year in just over 29 minutes. I'm about 25 pounds lighter now, so I think I have a bigger advantage this year.

Re: Knight's Training Log & Thoughts
24:06. I was really happy with this, even though I didn't feel all that good on the run. I am dehydrated. I think I could have run about 2 minutes faster, in all honesty, had I better prepared for this.
