Re: Kidcolin's log: back to basics (plus neck harness)

Squats from yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhtRx...youtu.be#t=50s

2nd set. First set was worse. You can still see me favoring my right leg.

Tonight I wrapped my left leg up near the hip very tight in knee wrap, did some air squats, then did some left-legged reverse lunges.

Is the knees wider than toes thing based on that mobility-wod guy's recommendation, or something else?

Re: Kidcolin's log: back to basics (plus neck harness)

sorta kinda. knees should always go out as far as they can go. Groin should be under a lot of strain as that's where a ton of the stretch reflex comes from.

I moved my toes in slightly while keeping the knees the same. Torques up 'dem hips.

I tried it a few times at lower weights (during my BBB sets). Not sure how I feel about it.

This is interesting. I've tried keeping my toes in a little bit more as you suggested a little while ago (they've been relatively wide in the past), but when I go down and shove my knees out it seems to force my feet to spin back out. Should I really try fighting this or is that just my anatomy?

Re: Kidcolin's log: back to basics (plus neck harness)

yeah, don't do it past wherever your mobility allows. but you should be able to gradually bring it in degree by degree over time. if not it's not like a crazy advantage or anything. but it helps.

KC: did you see that chaos and pain blog recently whereby he uses a sample size of like 10 world record squatters to say that a wide stance is the best way to squat? Since you lift at what appears to be a typical PL gym, do most of the guys squat really wide?

Re: Kidcolin's log: back to basics (plus neck harness)

wide and high and ****ty, yes. I think if we all entered a USAPL/IPF raw meet, I'd have the heaviest squat.

I did see that post. I think there's merit to it, as it does shorten the distance your hips have to travel. It is straining on the hips though.

I think my stance is about the same width as Captain Kirk's, Coan's, Hammon's, etc. I'm fine with it. I'll probably experiment at some point bringing my feet out an inch or two, but that's about it.

Yeah, I just read it again, and he too talk about the toes forward thing. He mentions that it is easier on the knees, which is the opposite of what I expected.

Re: Kidcolin's log: back to basics (plus neck harness)

it's harder on the hips. I wouldn't say it's easier on the knees. It's pretty neutral imo.

Nice squats and congrats on cutting progress.

Re: the wrapping, have you done much compression flossing in the past? Do you find that it has helped? I like the idea and I've seen favorable stuff written about it (primarily by powerlifters iirc) and I will probably try some myself to address some issues.

Looks like your left foot is turned out a bit more, also is your hand placement even on both sides? I see more of the bar visible on the left side.

Awesome music btw
