I think it depends on what are you goals with your body if you should obsess about visceral fat or what group of muscles you should be working. Some here just wants to have a certain optic, some want to prolong life expectancy and have better quality of life in old age. For my goals yoga + a little bit running/swiming/biking/dancing gives good result.

And again my personal experience is that motivation that comes from "I want to impress dudes" is very fleeting and unstable, where the motivation to avoid the health problems in the future leads to a lot better compliance.

Yes, when it's health related it's a whole different ball game. I stupidly waited until my mobility was threatened before I took my weight and health seriously.

mikey - Glad you are also on #teamdadbod

Since G4S is a dad I will say he can also be on the team. His POICAD was on the right track but this recent nonsense of 12% LocoBodyFat™ has set him back a bit.

I can get back on track! Snacks forthcoming!

how to react when your spotter tries to help prematurely on bench press

There's nothing wrong with being prepared when you can see the lift is slowing down, IMO James overreacted slightly but meh
06-06-2017 , 06:51 PM
of course he's overreacting.

james Harrison: "DONT TOUCH THE ****ING WEIGHT!"
pouncey: "I didn't even touch it"
Harrison: "you just looked at it! you just looked at it!" like he was pissed that pouncey even considered touching the bar or assisting him

just thought it was pretty funny and love JH's intensity

Perfectly acceptable reaction.

Nothing worse than someone stealing a big lift from you.

This. The guy brought his hands awfully close to the bar. I tell my spotters now to stand the **** back. If I fail a rep, I will safely drop it to my chest.

Spoiler:
If that means I die, add more weight to the bar before you call the paramedics plz

Has the hot yoga teacher been violated yet?

Have you failed with this approach, yet? What exactly the spotter do in that case? Pseudo-deadlifting a 300+ lbs off some bro's chest is not something I'd want to do.

I guess maybe they could take the plates off of one side and let the bar flip up. That doesn't seem that great either and seems weirder.

In either case, everyone else in the gym is going to think the spotter is the one that ****ed up. Unless your spotter is very strong and can lift the loaded bar off of your chest with ease, this doesn't seem like a great plan. Maybe you should fail a max rep on purpose and give us a TR.

Terrible leg drive. I give the lift a D+.

So fakeb is asking guys to 'mire, not actually spot?

Very Dom Mazzetti of you.

"Yo. Can you stand there and look at my lift?"

When you fail a rep it's not like you can't produce any force at all anymore. If someone where to fail 300 it's likely he can still produce like 280 pounds of force so the spotter would only be required to assist a small amount.

For standard spotting I accept that. But with the BustoRhymes method, I think that for a failed rep that is resting on the chest, the difference will be greater. At that point you're fatigued, and not tight and in good position like you would be mid-rep.

Even if I'm fully rested, I don't think I could press up my 1 rm if someone just placed a loaded bar on my chest while I'm lying on a bench. Of course, all my bench is touch and go, so that probably has a lot to do with it.
06-07-2017 , 01:33 AM
I think you're overthinking this. Busto has an extremely well developed sense of what he can bench through years of experience. Except maybe when attempting 1RMs with big jumps. Either way, if the spotter is being focused, it will be very obvious when/if the moment arises Busto is going to need help. Which is when the bar literally stops moving, or starts going down slowly. It's not like he has to rest it down onto his chest and wait around for 10 seconds for someone to come and start a lift, the spotter can still be there in 1 second and help revert the momentum. Probably very little effort is needed, if the dude looks like he even lifts that is.
06-07-2017 , 03:29 AM
Renton and Syndr0m are correct.

I take no chances with a spotter interfering with me hitting a lift. The bar might slow down or come forward. Hell, I've had a grinding rep start to descend and then I made it anyway.

Don't touch the ****ing bar. You're there to help if I actually fail the rep.
06-07-2017 , 04:01 AM
Not sure how I feel about getting confused with someone who I've got 30kg on.

To be clear, I think telling the spotter to not touch the bar is perfectly fine. The only part I considered an overreaction was when he screamed "you just looked at it!" as though pouncey looking at the bar and considering he might need help was ridiculous and an insult that JH might not actually get it on his own. Carry on
06-07-2017 , 09:11 AM
I think that was actually a pretty conservative reaction from JH, all things considered.

Needless to say, I agree with G4S and fakeb.
