no.

Try doing goblet squats. Use a dumbell if your gym doesnt have KBs. https://www.t-nation.com/training/goblet-squats-101

Always always always keep your knees in line with your toes. Stop if you feel any pain in your knees.

Ty for the advice. They do have kbs at my gym. I'll try the goblet squats tomorrow.

Tonight's dinner was a 90% lean beef burger with grilled peppers and onions on a bed of arugula w a sprinkle of blue cheese crumble. *burp* I'm a little too full.

Calories 1347 <--- lil but high
Protein 107 <--- >100 biatches
Fat 106 high
Carbs 49 low

Reasons for high numbers: chocolate and halo top ice cream.

Had a good long workout tonight. Did all the usual machines but upped the weight on about 8 of them, pushing myself. I can feel it in my arms.
Ahem, 20 lb bicep curls! See pic for entire list.

I also did the farmer's walk with 50 lbs 4x2 lengths and it wasn't too bad. Then I got a 16lb kettle bell and tried goblet squats.

I was worried that my knees just wouldn't do it as they don't work so well but success! Sorta. I did 3 sets of 8 and they def weren't deep enough but it's a starting point. No major knee pain either. I'll be working on this exercise.

No cardio. As it was I was at the gym for hours. Cardio tomorrow night.

Food was good.
Calories 1246
Protein 99g
Fat 69g
Carbs 66g

Stack up a few 1200 cal 60 carb days like this and I can pretty damn well guarantee a bodyweight PR in the next few days.

That calories number doesn't really fit with the macro numbers, any chance you copied down wrong?

Great job so far overall, it's a fun log to read!

Thanks Fabian and you're right! My protein number was off! It was 87 I think vs 107. I suck. I'm pretty sure I was posting 2 days here and effed up. Below are actual real numbers. Calories, carbs and fat were accurate.

still seems off for some reason
carbs: 49x4=196
protein: 87x4=348
fat:106x9=954

adds up to 1498

Are you planning to have knee replacement some time down the road? My cousin had both knees done last year and is very happy with the result. Have you verified with a doc that this new weight program is not going to be detrimental to your knees?

I don't eat all that clean and I very rarely go over 100 fats per day. Maybe you put in an extra 0 on something, like 30g fat instead of 3.

FTW? I used actual calories, not net calories, I just don't get it. I can post actual meals...I dunno!

Maybe, but I don't put in the fats, it just gets calculated....unless I put the chcolate in wrong, but the numbers should still add up regardless!

I know I will have TKR in my future. Original goal was to just hold off until 50 but I'm not as miserable as I was.

Regardless of pain, my knees do not work well. They work great for walking but not for stairs or squats. I was so surprised I was able to do the goblet squats last night, though they were half assed. But it's a good starting point and I can work to improve them.

No I have not verified with the doc about new weight program at all. Doctor pretty much poo poos anything except surgery. Well not poo poo, but looks at me like "sure it can't hurt but it ain't gonna replace your cartilage".

I have a check up with my primary care dude coming up. I will bring it up with him, though it's not his forte.

Knees was the reason why I've done pretty much zilch for the prior 6 months . If they stop me, they'll stop me and I'm being careful, but I'm going to try.

Friends and family have already told me I'm spending too much time in the gym. Really! Like that's a bad thing.

Thanks Renton!

With the intention of upping my protein, I had a protein bar with breakfast this morning.

Just finished a lunch of turkey chili and feeling pretty golden, thinking it's all protein, low carbs but at the moment i'm at 57 protein (good) and 71 carbs (wtf).

Apparently they put carbs in protein bars too but just don't advertise it.

Whatever.

so with 2/3 of my meals consumed I'm at...
718 calories
57 g protein
24g fat
71g carbs

There goes staying below 60 carbs, but I'll be back at it tomorrow. On the upside I have circa 500 calories left for today!

In 2 days, I'll have been at this for a month. Pretty sure I started this on April 25. Stay tuned for a recap/thoughts/whatever. I'll tell you I started with a bang, dropping lbs, but haven't lost any weight in about a week. That being said, my pants (where I carry most of my weight) are very baggy and falling off and my tight jeans are now loose. I'll take it!

Imo don't focus on carbs too much, just make sure your calories and protein are good and let carbs and fats fall where they may.

You're doing awesome

There's nothing magic about low carb. It causes you to deplete glycogen which leads to faster weight loss (water, not fat), which can be good for short-term motivation. Whenever your weight loss appears to stall, you can go low-carb for a week and (almost assuredly) set a new nadir weight. The other thing is that you will incidentally eat higher protein and lower calorie when you restrict carbs. That's probably the biggest thing. I tend to go the opposite direction and restrict fats since I feel that carbs allow me to have better workouts. Either way, the restriction of one macro leads to eating more of the others and fewer calories overall. It comes down to preference.

I typically always keep my carbs low, try for highest protein possible and dgaf about fats, while trying to keep it to 1,200 calories, so my gut reaction was to tell you that I didn't think I had much water weight to lose. However! When my knees get inflamed both my knees and legs swell and I wonder if that swelling is water weight that I could lose by eating low carb. I dunno. Seems like the leg/knee swelling has gone down now though.

This baby is in the oven and cooking! Lean pork tenderloin that I marinated in sugar free BBQ sauce. The sf BBQ sauce kinda sucks but i bought it, it was pricey so I'm effing using it, but I digress...

Marinated in sf BBQ sauce, then a sprinkle of "Everything But The Bagel" seasoning from Trader Joe's.

I'm going to eat then head to the gym. Plan is elliptical. Apparently everyone's doing it. My buddy who I play poker with told me HE does an hr on the elliptical!

But before elliptical, goblet squats, paying very close attention to my form. I'll do these first while I'm fresh.

Also a swim and a sauna to finish it off.

Ok I'm off to fix some beans to go with my pork. I'm thinking a black bean/corn mixture.

Dinner was yummy, which is fortunate because it's also tomorrow's lunch!

I am typing this from the sauna. I've finished logging in my food for the day and have even entered the snack I'll be having when I get home. If I eat anything else I will edit. Below is where we are:
Calories 1169 yay!
Protein 99g good
Fat 31g yay!
Carbs 113g omfg

Those carbs aren't really that bad and I considered not adding a little corn to my beans but I LIKE corn so eff it.

Below is a pic of my dinner and a breakdown of the day's food.
