Might only be $150 for the initial assessment session and less after that.

He is no mike Robertson but he is knowledgeable with knees and they may even have another expert at that facility.

I would trust Gentilecore and Cressey with my knee if I was OP. They are both on or very close to Robertson's level.

You make a great point about being knowledgeable about arthritic knees. 2 years ago my orthopedic doctor said he was amazed that I was able to walk. That being said, I've been able to do every exercise in my notes without pain. This is really shocking to me. I keep expecting to wake up the next day hobbled but so far so ****ing good.

Makes me wonder if I can do a squat and whether or not doing squats, even if I'm able to, will do further damage.
Umm...just going to toss out the suggestion that "get a new orthopedic doctor" should be on your to-do list. I know, I know, I'm like a broken record with this "change doctors" bee in my bonnet every time someone's doctor tells them something stupid, sorry.

Well if MLY can have dinner for breakfast and knock it out of the park, I can have breakfast for dinner! Yep, more pics of eggs. this is a 3 egg scramble w a cup of fresh snow peas. Also included tsp of evoo, splash of milk, s&p, and hot sauce.

This puts me at 1,180 for the day, so I'm challenging myself to to leave it at that till tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Holliday, I will respond to you later about ortho dtr, as I'm getting my sauna on as I type.

No snacking tonight.

Calories 1,180
Protein 81
Fat 60
Carbs 75

I'm going to the Red Sox game tomorrow night straight from work, where I'd normally blow through some serious calories so I need to figure out what I'm going to do. Maybe have dinner before I get there so I'm not tempted to make bad but yummy decisions. Going to tomorrow night's game means skipping the gym, but I've gone the past 6 days in a row.

My plan for the weekend is to watch some 'how to' beginner YouTube videos on SS to see what I can learn.

What I've been doing and will continue to do for the next little while is lift as heavy as I can every other day. On days in between, cardio. I sometimes add a little cardio or swimming to weights days as well.

I'll be getting in touch with the Tony dude from the link above in the next couple of weeks to see just how we can up this game plan.

Yea, just eat dinner before hand and bring a healthy snack to the game.

The above story about PLANNING ahead for a baseball game is a major reason why she's having success and M is struggling. If M were going to a baseball game you can pretty much guarantee to see a post like "forgot to eat before going to the game and my friends were getting food there and I couldn't be rude so I got two hot dogs and a tray of nachos and added smuckers jelly to all 3, prob about 500 calories total."

Ha, didn't think about bringing a snack to the game. Easily done. +1

Damn, cooking the ham would've fixed it. Will do tomorrow. +1

I don't think he's a horrible doctor. I've gone to him a handful of times, most recently over 18 months ago, maybe 2 years ago. Prior to that maybe every six months.

They'd take x-rays of my knees every time to see the further decline. Technicians would look aghast when looking at my x-rays. One told me she'd never seen knees in such bad shape at my age.

Doctor advised the only thing to do is TKR but I had to hold off as long as I could take it. He's given me cortisone like shots in my knees twice and offered them as often as I'd like.

Not only do I have zero cartilage in both knees, but both have really big bone spurs growing on either side of my knees. So much so, my knees are wider than my legs, sorta. Dtr said it was the body's attempt to compensate for the degeneration and my weight.

Plus serious issues with inflammation in my knees, that is now under control.

So whether or not he's a good doctor, there's not a lot he can do for me, other than replace the knees one at a time, or give me cortisone shots. I'm keeping this in my back pocket but so far the gym hasn't necessitated it.

We talked about SynVis injections (that replace the cartilage with a gel) but he said they had a low success rate. I asked about taking supplements like glucosamine drinks and he said they did nothing and I shouldn't waste my money.

I haven't been back to him in almost 2 years because as I've lost weight the pain in my knees became bearable and lately, missing. When I'd go to him, it was because I was in agony.

Funny, as I type this out I think that maybe you're right Holliday. Thanks for the food for thought.

It might be a good idea to chart activities/measurements (time) on one axis and pain levels on another.

Arthritic knees are no joke. While independence and happiness takes precedent, having a keen eye on your health is always worth reminding.

The important thing for you is moving forward. You probably should be consulting a specialist doctor (and maybe physical therapist) about your knees as you are unlikely to find any trainer who won't just be googling the medical history you describe (as ChrisV has pointed out, sometimes that's the doctors, too). Visualize the following two conversations and see if one of them is especially likely to be...unproductive:

*"Hi, Dr. Newguy, so WTF is going on with my formerly problematic and now functional and painless knees? The old doc seemed to think my current state was impossible, and so did I, and now...poof. Weird, huh? Anyway, now that I'm healthy I want to get JACKED so what do you think about SQUATS?"

*"Hello again, Dr. I-don't-think-you're-horrible. So...can't help but notice things have not gone like you predicted. Now I'm not saying you ****ed up or anything, but what exactly is the alternative? Oh, and I want to start pumping some serious leg-iron...your thoughts on risking my miracle?"

And I will tell you definitively doctors really, really, really have a tendency to take questions about their opinions as a vicious personal attack. I mean, it's possible my delivery may be a small part of the issue...

I really like the bolded one. A lot. However, the knees are not entirely functional, which is why I don't think I can squat. I can walk and bike for miles, but stairs are not the easiest thing, especially going down stairs. I think the exercise I'm doing now is strengthening the muscles around the knee now, maybe giving it more support? I dunno.

You're right.

Josie,

Way to keep kicking ass!

Grizy posted this egg recipe in m's thread. If you like fried eggs, you should check it out!

https://smittenkitchen.com/2014/10/the-crispy-egg/

The videos look like a ton of oil, but I used 2 tbsp to cook two eggs together, and 1 tbsp was left in the pan, so it's only about 100 cals from the oil. Well worth it IMO.

I saw the crispy eggs and thought they looked incredible but didn't investigate further b/c of the oil, though yeah, I doubt they could absorb a lot of it.

I actually just sprayed the pan with shortening, definitely used less than a tbs to fry both of my eggs.
