Re: ISF's Olympic lifting/ Westside/occational crossfit metacon log

Tried to get a light workout in, but was feeling a bit over trained.
Started out with bench
4x5: 135 185 225 245
Pull ups 3x10: bw
hang power clean-press-front squat complex
2x3-3-3: 135 155 Stopped here. Just didnt have anything today.
biceps curls
1x10: 25lb dumbells

I think I need to cut down on the volume. My rear delts were fried from the isabel workout yesterday. I had trouble with them even on the bench.

Re: ISF's Olympic lifting/ Westside/occational crossfit metacon log

Decided to reduce my volume a bit. My strength had been varying wildly from workout to workout and I think it was a result of overstraining a bit.
Hang power snatch:
4x3: 95 115 135 145
2x2: 150 150 (had taken a few weeks off from snatches after tweaking my rear delt, but numbers seem to be coming back quickly.)
Standing press
3x5: 135 140 140 (dont understand why I am so weak on the standing press, I can do this with 170 using dumbbells while seated no problem. Granted I was not maxing out with these weights, but I am pretty sure I could not do 170 standing for 5 reps)
front squat
3x5: 185 205 225 (had not gone above 3 reps on leg stuff for a while and was certainly feeling the volume)
Finished off with
pull ups 1x10 bw
machine curls 1x10: 110
one arm dumbbell triceps extensions 1x8: 40lbs

Re: ISF's Olympic lifting/ Westside/occational crossfit metacon log

can you video your barbell overhead press? It's probably a form issue if you can dumbell ohp more than barbell. Unless, of course, you don't go as far down with dumbells.

It's possible you are starting the motion by putting the bar out too far in front of you creating a huge lever you have to overcome. Try to hit your nose on the way up, and try to get your head through the window. There is slight body movement, not leg of hip drive, but the body starts slightly leaned back, and ends upright. That's just how it has to be to have the bar balanced over the midfoot. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I think I may be putting it to far out in front and my head is certainly nowhere close to the bar. Will try in th future. I almost always workout alone so videotaping is difficult.

Re: ISF's Olympic lifting/ Westside/occational crossfit metacon log

Decided to follow the performance menu WOD for the next 3 days starting with friday's today.

http://www.performancemenu.com/index.php

Did a handfull of warm up sets on both hand and full power snatch and worked up to
155x3 snatches from the floor (well they are all power snatches, I dont have rubber weights so am always doing relatively high catch power snatches). this was supposed to be at 80%, but was probably closer to 85%.
then
Clean and jerk (again substituted power clean and push jerk)
185x2 then 195 (185 was probably to light for cleans from the floor)

then 3x10 bw pull ups (minimal rest between sets)

Re: ISF's Olympic lifting/ Westside/occational crossfit metacon log

I've found the only way for me to do a stict oh barbell press is seated. Otherwise the bar is out in front. So I do them standing with the bar on the shoulders like in a jerk but use a little back lean and shove my hips forward as I drive the bar upwards and past my face, without bending the knees. I don't know if this is a strict press but I feel I can use more weight this way and keep the bar over my COG. You're press is much stronger than mine though

I think the military version (heels together) will keep it the most strict, as it would be pretty effing hard to get a lot of body movement/help without falling over.

Re: ISF's Olympic lifting/ Westside/occational crossfit metacon log

I tried to do last monday's performance menu wod since today was a rest day. One thing I have learned it that I just cant do olympic lifts two days in a row without it hurting performance. Also, I suck at the full version of the lifts. Since I have been focusing on the hang versions my form has gone to hell on the full versions. I think I will keep focusing on the hang versions until i reach my coal of hang power cleaning 225 for 3 reps and hang power snatching 185 for one rep. Also, cutting down to 185 so this is my body weight. Once I hit these targets as well as Olympic squating 405. Then i will probably get some coaching on the full lifts and try to get legit numbers there.

Today:
power snatch:
after warming up with a bunch of hang power snatch triples up to 115
Did 4 singles at 145
Power clean and jerk singles
185 195 195 205 (on all of my reps today I was catching things with very little knee bend) Also my jerk sucks. Not catching it at the bottom. Some press out was required.
These were all supposed to be at 85%. I did the power snatches at about 80% since yesterday i did them at 85% and my rear delts are fried.

Squat
2x2: 315

front squats

God dam weight room was closed because a window was broken.
The cardio room only has chick weights and machines.
Did pull ups superseted with one arm tricep extentions.

dumbbell triceps extentions: 3x10: 40lbs

Then some plyos
Added a few plyo's a bit after my workout.
1x10 30" box jump.
1x5 30" box jump from 14" seat
2x5 30" box jump from 14" seat with 60lb weight vest.

Re: ISF's Olympic lifting/ Westside/occational crossfit metacon log

Started out with hang power cleans:
3x3: 135 155 175
2x2: 185 205
I then failed at 215. Was a pussy could have gotten under it I think, also sometimes on heavy reps my form goes to **** and i start pulling with my arms way to soon.

Front squats 3x3: 205 225 245

I will do one more of these workouts tomorrow. Have been trying to follow a performance menu type of workout schedule with low volume and high frequency, but its not working out. I just cant do oly lifts very often, even if the volume is low. I felt no power today even with the lighter cleans.
