I usually stick with a rotating set of standards to feel superior to women. One day I will find a woman who's physically stronger, better at logic and spatial geometry... then I'll cry and probably marry her.

Last edited by Thremp; 05-05-2010 at 04:54 PM. Reason: who am I kidding I'll just update to include something I'm superior at no matter how nonsensical IE "Smallest breasts"

Goddamnit. It looked like a suit. I saw a monolift video. I probably missed the correct one. Oh well.

But yes it is irrelevant even if she was in a suit. I wasn't trying to take anything away from her, since even if she was equipped, her equivalent raw squat would have been infinitely superior to anyone here.

I most certainly have. Check my log for admirations. Pic is probably not public anymore though.

And I accept your quad-off challenge! Though you'll probably win with your beastly squats. We should probably get a bracket going as I suspect miles would shame us all.

kara/gorilla,

I need to buy some blast straps for my facility primarily for band-assisted (and resisted) barbell movements. Do you guys know anything about them? Is EliteFTS the best place to get them? Any idea on a "starter pack?" I just have a 50 lb. purple Jumpstretch band I use for X-Band walks and Pallof Pressing.

Thanks in advance.

ETA: Ah never mind. I just pulled the trigger on a set of mini/light/average bands in regular and short versions.

Re: blast straps

We have a pair of the EliteFTS ones at the gym, but I haven't got to play with them yet. I think if it was me personally, I would just buy some gymnastics rings which im guessing are much cheaper. If you're training people; however, the Elite ones are very nice looking and put together with nice handles, etc...

Although it doesn't matter since you bought the bands, lol.

Did you get your bands from EliteFTS?

I did. They were pretty cheap. $150 for 5 sets and a hoodie. I'll get some rings soon as well; I already have a TRX though.

5/8/10 Frederick Celtic Festival - Frederick, MD

Braemar Stone (24lbs) - 39', 40', 40' (1st)
Open Stone (17.5lbs) - 45', 45', 50' (2nd)
56 WFD - 40', 41', 42' (2nd)
28 WFD - Foul, 76', Foul (2nd)
22 Hammer - 94', 96', 99' (4th)
Caber - light stick (?)
20 Sheaf - 22'(4th)
56 WOB - 16' (1st)

Overall - Not sure, none of us stayed around to actually see who won, lol. I was in the top 3 somewhere I guess.

Well, my debut this year, as well as at this bodyweight. Pretty happy with how I threw overall, I just need to figure out how to apply everything in different positions.

My open stone started off really bad, my added size made tucking the rock very difficult and it was something I did not anticipate. Finally got an ok push on the last throw. Will have to work some flexibility the next few weeks.

The ground was next to impossible to dig in for the hammer for me, but i was happy with my positions. The distance will be there once I get a good foothold imo.

My sheaf is absolutely horrendous.

Pretty happy with my WOB, took three good rips at 17' and almost got it to go. I hope it's there soon.

My conditioning, as expected by me, for the first game is awful. I was really worn out, and am extremely sore today. I should probably do heavy deadlifts tomorrow, lol.

Out of curiosity, what are the typical prizes in the events you compete in?

It varies pretty big from comp to comp, since they are essentially not related to each other (ie, we have no governing body). Yesterday there were 5 Pros and we all got an appearance fee of $500, with our lodging taken care of.

Typically, lodging and travel are covered for every Pro comp, and usually the biggest money I make at any single event is ~$2k. Smallest is maybe $350ish. Winning the national champs is good for about $3.5k. Not overly big money, but better than a usual Saturday of poker.....for me

How often does a non-pro come along and put up competitive scores? Maybe not for everything, but even for a couple events.

Any one who was/is a decent shot putter can come along and be quite competitive in that stones, since it's basically the same event. Not surprising, Brian Oldfield holds the Highland Games World Record in the Open Stone, and it was set in 1979.

We had Cory Martin come out and throw last year with us and he got close to the stone record. He threw at Auburn and is a Nike sponsored (i think still?) pro shot putter and hammer thrower now, throwing real close to 70' in the shot earlier this year in a few meets, and iirc finished 4th in the indoor world champs a couple months ago. So he whooped us in the stone, but after that it was our turn...

High level oly hammer throwers usually can do ok right from the start, just because of the skill set they possess.

Outside of that, no one really ever comes out and does well or competitive (obv based on who you're competing against that day), just because the events are so heavy and so unique. Many a big strong guy has come out thinking "it doesn't look so hard", only to end up trying not to fall down the whole day. I was one of those guys, lol.

There are about 1-3 guys per year who turn Pro from the amateur ranks, but no one in the last two years or so that has really been ready imo. It takes time to plug all the leaks and make sure every event is solid.

Pulldowns
Facepulls
Bis

I'm still sore from Saturday, but wanted to get something in anyway. All of it felt heavy, as expected after a competition.
