Bruiser,

You haven't answered my question. Additionally, you have perpetuated the logical fallacy of appeal to authority. His ideas about training can (and should) be evaluated on their own. Not because he coaches Division-I hockey. Such as...

This being really, really dumb.

kyle, why would so many elite athletes work with him if he wastes peoples time in the gym? also everything i see written about him on the internet by other top trainers is positive.

No. Show me athletes who train in the gym for prehab.

1. Get lots of food.
2. Have a hot wife cook it for you.
3. Profit.

No, but seriously, my diet is about as simple as my training methodology. A standard day for me consists of 1 to 2 pounds of red meat or chicken, along with a pound of pasta (ftr, <3 hamburger helper). That all gets thrown together and I start eating at 8am. I eat on that until noon-ish, whether it's gone or not, then I usually grab a burger or something like that for lunch, then continue after lunch with the meat/pasta. Then it's just a standard dinner, steak and taters, chicken wings, something like that. Before bed is some snacks or ice cream with a lot of milk. This is the routine that I've been in for months now, and it usually takes me about two weeks to get used to eating so much, and even then it can be too much. Just last week I threw up mid-way during my lunch at a restaurant, only to sit back down and finish the meal. I was upset about the wasted calories, however. So the prep time is actually less than an hour a day, really just the meat and pasta cooking. I used to just cook huge quantities on sunday and put it in containers for the week, but the last time we did that we made a pan of chicken:

The problem with that plan? I ate it all in one sitting as soon as it was cooked, along with a box of mac and cheese. I did the same thing a few months back with 4 good size rib eyes and mashed potatoes. I had to up the fiber intake the next day after that one, lol.

So yea, cook huge quantities of food, put it in containers, and condition yourself to eat huge quantities of food.

Eh, I don't mind. It's good discussion.

one thing i know i could do is eat myself to 300. at 255-260 i still feel hungry pretty often. but i'm more likely to dimichele down to 200 than gorilla gorge to 300.

I'm jealous, cause the food is by far the toughest part for me. I'm naturally a lean guy and I don't really put on much fat regardless of diet, so putting on any weight is difficult. I suppose there are worse fates though then being a pretty lean 300, lol. Tbh though, I'd trade about 5% bf right now to weigh 20 lbs more, just to see what it feels like

I started my 'serious' training in 1998 at about 175lbs. So it's taken me 12 years you put on 125+lbs. Long journey.

Did you ask the waiter for a bucket, or did you go into the restroom?

lol, i could feel it coming so I made it to the restroom in plenty of time. It's not the first time it's happened, so I guess I'm used to it. I've done it in the middle of training sessions too. Luckily it was just a one person restroom so no one else had to deal with it.

Now that you mention it though, I should have just asked for bucket. Imagine the calories I would have saved by not getting up and walking to the restroom.

Was anyone in the restroom at the time? I can imagine them not wanting to go back and finish their meal after that.

No, that's why I said luckily it was just a one person room.

lol, that probably would turn the average restaurant patron off and render them unable to finish the meal. I would just look at them with vomit on my face and say, "Don't eat the chicken!"

4/23/10 Official Weigh-in: 302

I started my offseason training 25 weeks ago. Today I'm up 25lbs. I figure one pound per week is good quality gaining.

I could get to 300 so easily. Not even close. At BW 245, I could get there in like... 3 months.

I got to 300 (and beyond: 345) at 5'9", just by being lazy and eating a lot of junk food, fast food, pizza, sodas, boxed pasta type dinners (mac and cheese, tuna helper, etc), and not exercising for 20 years. I'm on my way down (282.5 as of this morning) and don't plan on getting back. You guys can have my extra fat if you want.

I would take it!

I'm so jealous of you guys that put on weight easy, but I'm sure we all have a case of "wanting what we don't have". So the good news is I'm 302lbs with decent abs, the bad news is I'd rather be 330lbs.

I eat pretty much as much as I can or want, which is a lot, with the caveat that I pretty much only eat two meals a day and peri-workout, with the occasional junk binge exception. With this approach, I find it very difficult to get over 260. Not that I'm trying, just that's where I stopped gaining weight. I feel for anyone who is active and trying to get heavier than that.

Good luck on the muscle up. I was just asking people around my gym (CF gym) if they've ever seen anyone my size or larger do a muscle up... but it's CF, so I don't think they've even ever seen anyone my size.

Ever do any oly lifts or pulls in your training? I'd think the fast lifts could be useful.

Ya, it's a struggle. I actually have no idea what my resting body would even be right now.

lol! yea everyone I have talked to or asked hasn't seen anyone of "normal size" able to do one. My attempts so far have been pretty huge fails, I'm not sure if I'm ever going to be able to do it at this kind of body weight. Imma keep trying though.

I don't do any with religious regularity, but they do get thrown in there on occasion. My wife competed in Oly lifting for years, so I have a good coach but it's just not something I'm willing to put a lot of effort into. I think if I got to a 200kg clean, it would be just that. I can't see the carryover being great enough in what I do to spend a large amount of my limited training time to focus on that. I did, a couple years ago, do light snatches and jerks the day before completions as a CNS primer. Tbh, I didn't notice a difference in performance.

I did do some light hip snatches tonight though, just trying to be fast.

Craig learned the Olympic lifts as quickly as anyone I've ever seen and is incredibly flexible for someone his size. He was hitting full squat snatches the first day we worked on OL stuff and they looked great. He's very quick and explosive and could hit monstrous numbers if he wanted to. The guys from the Highland Games board always bug him about doing more Olympic lifting, working up to a max etc. Maybe next off season

Deadlifts w/ chains - up to 455lbs + 200lbs of chain for a triple.

Rows
Chins

I felt fantastic pulling tonight. Big things on the horizon imo.

On my second set of chins I felt a 'pop' in my left high lat/low rear delt area. Not good. Stopped immediately. No blood yet so hopefully I just strained something. Ice and Voltaren cream already applied.

I haven't bled or bruised yet, so that's a decent sign but I'm not a bleeder to begin with. The pain is worse today, but it almost feels like it could just be a monster strain or pull. *fingers crossed*

I'm gonna take the whole week off and see how it progresses. I compete next weekend so I better heal up quickly.

I stuffed my face to get to 270lb for a little bit, but it was not pleasant eating that much or being that big. Doing anything active for more than a few seconds sucked.

The upside was improved stomach rebound in the bottom of the squat.

re: chins for big guys
I feel safer doing pulldowns with separate pulleys because I can control the motion better, and I get good carryover between these and chins. On a fixed bar I find myself straining.
