Re: I throw heavy stuff around... (training log)
If you could press 278 in the weight group < 319 this would be an elite performance per crossfit standards. I think this is a worthy target.

Re: I throw heavy stuff around... (training log)
So, for me, the hardest part of trying to get bigger and stronger all the time is the food intake. As a result, I'm going to make a conscious effort to keep track of what I'm consuming so I know what I need to adjust.
I think for the most part people really have no idea what they consume on a daily basis without writing it down, or having wrote it down. The last time I tracked my food was probably over 10 years ago, so I'm definitely guilty to a certain degree. I probably won't log my food everyday as it will just be boring, but I might do it for the first week or so to keep myself accountable and so i have an idea of my intake.
1/3/11 Food
0600 - Met-Rx Big 100 bar (410cal/31pro)
0830 - Rice and Chicken (800cal/69pro)
1200 - Beef and Pasta (1740cal/94pro)
1500 - Chicken Soup (240cal/18pro)
1600 - 6oz Ribeye (250cal/20pro)
1800 - Wendy's Double Stack (360cal/23pro)
1800 - Wendy's Small Frosty (227cal/8pro)
2030 - Muscle Milk RTD (230cal/22pro)
Also consumed but not counted: Milk, Cheez-its, Spree Candy
Total daily caloric intake - 4257+
Total daily protein intake - 285g+
Notes:
Not bad for day 1, as it usually takes me about 10 days to get used to eating. I expect as I get used to it, I will be able to get more calories in. Obv I need to get the protein up as well.
The Met-Rx Big 100 bar tastes like ****. I will not be doing that again. I will either replace it with a king size snickers and a muscle milk or a hostess apple pie and a muscle milk. Either way the caloric intake and protein intake will be about the same.
The Wendy's is pre-training food, and is usually the same thing every training day.
I have to learn to eat post workout. I generally feel super rundown after training, and I don't really like to eat. I have to work on that, and today would have been better if I would have been able to get in another meal there instead of just a muscle milk.

They were my thoughts as I read your list. I have the same problem when I train at night. I get home at 8pm or whatever and just don't feel like eating any more and just end up having a shake.

nice!
As far as bars go, there are a lot of really good tasting ones out there now. The 85g ISS Oh Yeah peanut butter & caramel is my favorite. 380 cal. 27g protein. Tastes like a good candy bar. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/iss/oh.html In an average day, I'll eat two of those and I look forward to it.
Those Met-Rx bars were around ~15-20 years ago and I dont think they ever improved the taste or texture.

I had looked up which bars were the highest calories, and the Met-rx bar was one of them, so I tried that first.
An 85g bar with 380/27 sounds good too though, will order some of those this afternoon. Is that the best flavor? Thanks.

I've noticed most protein bars are either completely soy or if your lucky mixture of soy/milk protein. Do you specifically look for bars that are not soy protein, or do you not worry about it?

Good question Jdock, I've often wondered the same thing.
I also noticed muscle milk has soy protein in it

I don't worry about it. It's all about taste and convenience with bars.

Oh, and regarding that, I also think the whey v. soy protein argument is pretty silly, fwiw.

I like the peanut butter & caramel best. My wife & daughter like some of the others better - almond fudge brownie and vanilla toffee fudge. The chocolate & caramel is pretty good too. You can order single bars and try all of them.
The Titan bars are really good too. Similar protein but a bit lower cals: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/pre/titan.html
Supreme bars are very good too. Their cals & protein are closer to the ISS Oh Yeah bars. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/su...premebars.html
All are far superior in taste & texture to those old Met-Rx bars.
My understanding of soy protein is it lacks some essential amino acids that whey, eggs and meats have.
