Well, I'm out.
August 18, 2012 - Heaven Hill Highland Games - Bardstown, KY
Warm ups went well, made sure the arm was as ready as it could be. Double sleeved the elbow for extra compression.
Stone - I just stood as there is really no sense in moving if I can't push hard on it. Threw 41' and 44' and passed on the third. ****ty throws, but success as far as the muscles and tendons were concerned.
28 WFD - Threw 71', 76', and 77' consecutively. Just trying to turn it up a little each throw. Again, ****ty throws, but success as far as the muscles and tendons were concerned.
22 Hammer - Warm ups were fine, and I didn't even bother putting on blades for what I knew was sub-max throws. I wasn't really worried about this event, as I thought the flexion on my wrist/elbow would be minimal. I was wrong. One throw and that was it, big pain, and I'm out.
After reviewing a picture, I can see how it would happen on the hammer. Wrists cocked and then the follow through. Ouch.
Anyway, it feels pretty rough. If I had to guess, I probably set myself back 6-8 weeks again. That means my season is done. I'm ok with it, at least I now know where I stand. I had to see. I rolled the dice and lost....probably won't be the last time.
The good news is I should get to start my offseason a little sooner this year, so more time to actually get strong. And that's exactly what I'll be doing.
