High reps...I'm trying to tone my shoulders.

August 12, 2012

Warm up - Foam roll, mobility, TKE

Squat
3x3x135
1x3x225
3x3x315

Women's Press (paused)
3x8x135
1x8x185
1x8x225
1x8x275

Elbow area is talking to me a little bit. No real pain, but perhaps I've just worked it a little to much the past few days.

Pressing over 9000 will do that.

Doc appt. - Tendon and flexor mass is still healing, which is not really what I was looking for. Doc put it at about 85-90% healed. We discussed me competing this weekend, and how I need to approach it. He suggested I take a few throws with the 28 starting at 50% to see how I'd react.

Took 8 throws, with the first throw landing closer than my lefty one spins have landed. Awesome. No real pain though and was able to take it up to about 85%. Hopefully I don't blow it all apart this weekend.

Re: I throw heavy stuff around...and I'm still out of shape

Well, I'm out.

August 18, 2012 - Heaven Hill Highland Games - Bardstown, KY

Warm ups went well, made sure the arm was as ready as it could be. Double sleeved the elbow for extra compression.

Stone - I just stood as there is really no sense in moving if I can't push hard on it. Threw 41' and 44' and passed on the third. ****ty throws, but success as far as the muscles and tendons were concerned.

28 WFD - Threw 71', 76', and 77' consecutively. Just trying to turn it up a little each throw. Again, ****ty throws, but success as far as the muscles and tendons were concerned.

22 Hammer - Warm ups were fine, and I didn't even bother putting on blades for what I knew was sub-max throws. I wasn't really worried about this event, as I thought the flexion on my wrist/elbow would be minimal. I was wrong. One throw and that was it, big pain, and I'm out.

After reviewing a picture, I can see how it would happen on the hammer. Wrists cocked and then the follow through. Ouch.

Anyway, it feels pretty rough. If I had to guess, I probably set myself back 6-8 weeks again. That means my season is done. I'm ok with it, at least I now know where I stand. I had to see. I rolled the dice and lost....probably won't be the last time.

The good news is I should get to start my offseason a little sooner this year, so more time to actually get strong. And that's exactly what I'll be doing.
