Next year, 2013, I will be 50 years old. I've set some goals based on the number 5(0) and this is where I'll track my progress.

General Goal - Enjoy life until I die. Could go into more detail, but that's basically it.

Stats:
Age 49
Height 6'00"
Weight 183lbs

These are all goals to be completed for the year 2013.

Easy Goals:
  • Cycle 50 miles in under 5 hours - Really easy as long as weather, traffic and my bike cooperate
  • Cycle a metric century in under 5 hours - a little harder than above, but still mostly trivial.
  • Cycle 5 imperial centuries before the year ends- Just a matter of finding the time and daylight.
  • 5 chin-ups bw+50lbs - I've done 5 before (a few years back) with a 45lb plate
  • 5 ring dips bw + 50lbs (see above) my ring dips are always pretty close to chin-ups
  • Front Squat 150 lbs for 3 X 5 reps - I have done more in the past.
  • Maintain weight between 175 and 185 lbs
  • Post to this log a minimum of 5 times a week.

Medium Difficulty Goals:
  • Run a 5k in under 25 minutes - I enjoy running but I'm very slow and don't try hard. I've done this a few times many years ago.
  • 15 Chinups in a row - my best ever is 12, no where near that now.
  • 15 Ring Dips in a row - see above
  • Press 150 lbs 1X5 - I've done 130lbs 3X5 but that was when I weighed 210 lbs. Still, if I stick with it I should be able to do this.
  • Front squat 180lbs 3X5. Done this before when I weighed 210 lbs. Would like to do this at 180lbs.
  • Touch the rim. I could sort of dunk as a teenager and touching the rim was always easy for me until my mid 30's.
  • Participate in 5 Critical Mass events. Only did 2 this year.
  • Bike to work at least 5 times a month, every month. Just a matter of getting up early and being prepared for the weather.
I can dream goals:
  • Run a 10K in under 50 minutes. Should be an easy goal, but it isn't. I'm just really lazy about training and I don't push myself at all during races. My best time is 54 minutes which I ran 4 years ago.
  • Hold an elbow lever for 5 seconds
  • Cover 50 miles on foot in under 24 hours.

Looks interesting. Good luck with it. Maybe there is some special challenge event you can do for the last dream goal. I seem to remember a walk in the north of England that was something like 55 miles. It does sound like rather a lot though.

I hope you realise you are going to have to cycle 60 miles in under 6 hours when you get to 60.

I'm hoping my new maturity will overcome my youthful laziness.

how do you do your GTG? Just wherever or only when at home? When I as doing it I pretty much just did it anywhere, and got some pretty strange looks along the way. What is that last dish? #dessertnoob

GTG-Mostly at home. If no one is at the office, I'll sneak in a few sets there. I do chinups off the door frame, sometimes we'll have chinup contests at work. Also, when I'm out for a walk or run I'll do chinups and dips at any playground that crosses my path.

Dessert - Apricot and almond strudel.
