Re: Help me win the prop bet. 1.75x bench in a year

Legchop idea is brilliant. You said you have 20 days. Do the runs on day 1&3. Amputate legs on day 4 and bench around 180-190 on day 20 after you recover from surgery.

Re: Help me win the prop bet. 1.75x bench in a year

4/13 workout

I got mixed up with Tex and ended up doing this workout which was meant for tomorrow. Oh well, it's not the end of the world

Me

Weight: 167.8
Morning Soreness: Low
Workout Yesterday? Yes, shoulders

Consumption

A lot of tofu. Not ideal at all, as I actually don't like eating that much tofu. But, I was busy with school and whatnot. I had 2 creatine pills, 3 scoops of soy protein, NO explode pre workout, and cell tech in the morning. I will have some creatine before bed.

Workout

Flat bench

95 x 10 (easy)
135 x 6 (easy)
135 x 6 (medium-easy)
170x2 (did 1 and a half of a second. As you asked, I was spotted and needed help on the second). New Max!
155 x 2 (easish)
135 x 5 (easy)

Incline Bench

This whole bit was probably too easy. I'm not sure if it helped that I did shoulders yesterday.

85 x 6
95 x 6
115 x 3
115 x 3
95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5

Narrow Grip Bench

I can either do these well or poorly depending on where i put my hands. In the end, I do think I'm terrible at these. The bar wiggles like crazy and people watching probably think I'm going to die.

95 x 8 (I did 6 only)
115 x 5 (I did 95 x 5)
115 x 5 (i did 95 x 5)
115 x 5 (i did 2 and a half of these)

Tricep Extension

1x15 (i did 25 lbs - easy)
1x12 (42.5
2x8 (50 and 57.5)
1x6 (50)
1x10 strip set to 1x8 (57.5 and 50)

1.5 does not mean two. If you were helped on your second rep then that rep doesn't count.

True. I'm not trying to lie, just be as thorough as possible in my report to Tex.

My instructions were this, and I'm quoting

"170x2 (w/ a spotter assist, preferably on the 2nd rep only, and the key is to keep the bar moving at a good pace, you should be doing most of the work, but at no point should the bar stop, come back down, or anything like that. a good pace for as assisted lift on bench press is a 3 second count from the time you perform the positive half of the repetition)"

I think that's pretty much what we did. Regardless, I had never done 1 rep of 170 before tonight, so it's still a new high.

he's not being serious. going to failure is stupid, especially because your goal is to only add strength, not get some epic burn and chest PUMP

Can you explain this a little more? Are you implying that I did go to failure or that it was good I had a spotter?

Well you weren't able to complete rep #2 on your own, so yes, I'd say you went to failure. Purposely going to failure is not really conducive to a goal of adding strength on the bench press. Techniques like that are mostly used for hypertrophy purposes. Doing this consistently will likely hurt your recovery.

I see. I'm not saying you are wrong, but you do realize that quote was from Tex, who I believe a lot of people respect around here. Am I wrong?

Yes, I do realize the quote was from Tex. However, the idea that going to failure makes recovery more difficult is something that is expressed by the majority of powerlifters.

From Dave Tate's bench manual:

"Training to failure is very hard on your ability to recover and should be used sparingly."

Do you have to be Vegan to win this bet or is this a personal choice?
