First GGO this month was the standard bro curling in the squat rack with the place half empty - I always figured this was a myth but apparently not. A few days later saw a girl in the squat rack using it as a support for single leg standing dumbbell rows. I always figured the point of these was to also work the core so holding onto a support kind of defeats the purpose. Using a squat rack as the support is double fail.

Old man doing single handed standing shoulder presses - with a barbell. Picture old guy pushing up a barbell slightly too heavy for him so he can't control it properly - it's swinging around almost taking bystanders heads off

One of my favourites - guy doing behind the head seated shoulder press in the Smith machine with an open handed grip. Countdown to gym fail in 3... 2... 1...... *YELL*. Picture head forward, arms extended straight up behind head with bar sitting nicely at the bottom of the V. I look around and nobody has even bothered turning to see what might have been a very nasty situation. Figured as nobody else seemed to notice I better head over and see how he is, before I get there he gets up seeming sore but surprisingly injury free.

Nicest one was girl doing glute bridges with a 5kg weight in her crotch - thrusting her hips forward to push the weight up. It looked like she was humping the weight.

PT gets girl to deadlift. Sounds great. Then at the end of her sets he gets her to lift the bar back into the safety bars which requires her to lift the barbell higher than the top of her lift. Picture girl twisting and turning trying to get bar about half a foot higher than her waist - with the weights still on it. PT oddly sees nothing wrong with this picture and once bar eventually somehow gets back walks off leaving weights on bar.

Another PT walking with 2 girls decides he wants to be all alpha and make me pause my hanging leg raises while he walks through my set (huge room to walk around - he had to divert to walk into my set). Soon realises his mistake when it's obvious he is about to get my feet swung into his face and meekly changes path to walk around. One of my pet peeves are PT's, and bro's in general, walking through peoples' sets expecting them to pause mid lift for them to pass when there is ample room to walk around. I'm on the warpath on this one and very well may have a few stories in the coming months. Especially when it's a PT or bro walking through an older or female gym goer. Also on the warpath against the pigs who leave a dozen dumbbells, barbell, EZ curl bar, used tissues and empty water bottle next to a bench for other people to clean but that's another story.

Yeah, I almost hope that someone will get in the path of some weight I'm doing and that I've been doing for the last 10 minutes. Almost....in reality I'm sure it will be bad with blood everywhere and stuff but man, some ppl just don't seem to even realize even the light weights are relatively heavy once you get hit with them.

Like, how great would it be if the d-bag trainer decides to put plates on the squat rack while I'm unracking 3 plates (not there yet but this is my fantasy damnit) and the 3rd plate I loaded on b/c I'm an elite 3 plate lifter hits him right in the d-bag nose and there's d-bag blood everywhere while I finish my set. Then they fire his ass, buy more squat racks, and give me a lifetime membership for free for being such a hero.

Man, I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about how awesome that entire scenario would be.

I think cha would be pissed you hit him in the nose after falling over trying to unrack 3 plates while fantasizing about him being a d-bag trainer.

Two GGOs from today -

1) I think the internet is finally starting to kick-in. The whole time I was there both squat racks and the lifting platform were in use, and mostly by groups of 3-4 guys. All were lifting with good form and I could tell that a bunch of people were going SS or similar routines. Is the era of the bro over?

2) A guy who used to go in the gym before it was rebuilt. I've not seen him since the new place opened and figured he'd given up, but he was back today. He used to use the machines and sometimes dumbells for what would be standard exercises, but would do everything as fast as possible while throwing his whole body into it and bouncing and jerking his way through every lift. Unfortunately I didn't see him in action because I was just leaving, but just his attire was enough to know that he was still as weird as ever. The exact same long-sleeve soccer top and short shorts that he has always worn, ripped up and full of holes, easily 20 years old. Not just odd socks, but odd shoes. Who the **** wears odd shoes? He was carrying his keys, money etc around with him in a dress shoe, but the cherry on top was industrial style ear mufflers. I figure he doesn't like to listen to the music they have on in there, but is too old-school to have any kind of music of his own.

I was in the changing rooms and just leaving the gym when I saw him. If I see him again I'll do whatever it takes to get a pic of him. Even better if I can get a vid of him working out. Leg extension machine was always my fave to watch him do.

I have never seen someone walk in someone's way midset at anything. That's grounds for an angry confrontation IMO.

working out the other day some dude asked me to spot him on the bench. so i do, for 3 sets. naturally we part ways.

i finish my workout, go to the change room, get naked to prepare for shower just as he comes into the change room. our eyes meet.

i casually say hey. he gives me very weird look. was jokes.

Random guy on my FB posts a vid with the caption "140kg deadlift", in which he actually does a couple of 140kg 1/5th rom half squats. Literally nothing more than him locking/unlocking his knees.

I check the comments:

You should set him straight that it is a squat, not a deadlift, and that the squat is not of sufficient depth. Then post some videos of you actually DLing >140 kg and correctly squatting at least 140 kg...............

Also in my defense I'm sure I could do at least 1 squat rep with 140kg, and probably more. My last workout I did 8x127.5. I felt the urge to share this.
